Biotechnology is not a very new development in the field of science. It has been used from decades, but it has not been widely explained as biotechnology. In its simplest form, biotechnology means using microorganisms or their products to the betterment or improve human health or the environment, or to run a process. Biotechnology itself is a combination of biology and other sciences to create new, innovative form in the agriculture , indutry and environmental industries. Products include medicines, vaccines, plant growth hormones and dietary supplements.
There are nine major areas of this technology and their application in the field of biotechnology. These nine major fields are bio processing technologies, monoclonal antibodies, cell culture, duplicate DNA technology, cloning, protein engineering, biosensors, nano biotechnology and microarrays.
Biotechnology a technology refers to the use of living cells to produce famous products. This method has been used for hundred thousands of years without the knowledge of true science, such as brewing beer, making wine, and even making bread and cucumbers! Small animals were first discovered in the mid-1800's, and people realized that their biological machines were the source of these useful products. Extensive work and research has led us today into the production of amino acids, birth control pills, pesticides, antibiotics and vitaminsand many other thing to name just a few.
Monoclonal antibodies technology uses cells from the immune system to make antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies are very useful in detecting any contaminants found in the air water and land, detecting viruses that may be harmful to food, distinguishing between normal cells and cancerous cells, and accurately diagnosing any possible infectious diseases in humans, animals. or plants.
Cell culture simply means the develpment of cells without the organism. There are 3 fields in this study, which include plant cell culture, insect cell culture and mammal cell culture. DNA Recombinant technology, in the literal sense of the world, means to recombine two fragments of DNA into two separate types. These are used to produce new drugs and vaccines, to slow down the digestive process, to control bacterial diseases and to prevent inflammation, to name a few.
Cloning became very familiar after Dolly made sheep years ago. Cloning technology actually allows the preparation of similar genes, plants, cells or animals. Protein engineering is a DNA recombinant process aimed at enhancing existing proteins to form unnatural proteins. These proteins can be used in food processing, drug development, and industrial production.
Biosensors are a combination of biology and the progress of microelectronics. Biosensors find devices that rely on cell specifications and molecules to identify and measure objects at very low points, which is why they are widely used to measures healthy food, safety and nutrition of young, people explosive detection, toxicity, and bio-warfare. agent, find and measure contamination, and provide bedside emergency measurements of vital blood components.
Nano-biotechnology refers to the research and preparations of small structures and equipment that may consist of only one molecule. This field of research enables us to improve the specificity and timing of drug delivery, increase the speed and effectiveness of diagnostics, and promote the development of green revolution processes.
Micro array is a genetic and functional study that make us able to analyze hundreds of thousands of samples at a time. This field gives us permission to monitor genetic activity, to identify genes that are importantance for plant production, and to identify genetic mutations associated with disease.
