How Barsha Pump

 

 The Barsha Pump is the first type of hydro powered pump developed by a Qysta. It is a water wheel propelled pump that utilizes the energy from the flow of rivers and canals to pump water without requiring any fuel or electricity to be operated. Depending upon the soil, crop, climatic conditions, and irrigation technique, one Barsha Pump can irrigate up to 2 hectares of land, and process up to 40,000 liters per day. Although optional, it is recommended to use the Barsha Pump in integration with the storage system and efficient water distribution techniques such as a sprinkler system, drip system, mister, etc. as it helps irrigate larger areas with one Barsha Pump. In addition, every Barsha Pump that replaces a fuel pump saves over 1 ton of CO2 annually.As a company, we aim to provide sustainable hydro powered pumping solutions that can have a positive economic, environmental, and social impact. In South Asia, we have our affiliated entity in Nepal which has been operational since 2015. A   Qysta Nepal is responsible for selling and implementing pumps within the country and serves as a platform for carrying out research and experiments and gathering valuable market feedback. Our flagship product, the Barsha Pump is an award-winning innovative pump, which has been rolled out worldwide to various countries, including Colombia, Malawi, Kenya, Nepal, and India. Our second product, the HyPump, is also in our plans as we aim to grow with it. It is a more powerful pump, as it pumps up to 800,000 liters of water, and one Hy Pump can serve about 10 to 20 hectares of land.Our main target is Smallholder farmers in Nepal, India, Colombia, Kenya, Malawi, Indonesia, and Spain, as well as NGOs and governments in those countries.The Barsha pump provides a sustainable solution to farmers across the world. It works on the principle of spiral pumping, using the kinetic energy of the waterwheel to pump water to higher elevations without the need for active mechanical parts to create pumping action. The pump consists of spirals where air is compressed between water columns resulting in air pressure that lifts the water.The Barsha pump is made with indigenous elements and does not need much maintenance as there are only a few moving parts. As a result of these factors, the Barsha pump can save over 70% of watering costs for farmers, compared to conventionally-used fossil-fuel based pumps. The pumps have been implemented in areas such as Nepal and Indonesia, where barren lands are being cultivated only once a year in the rainy season. Farmers could not farm in the dry season due to lack of irrigation, and the costs of using kerosene or gasoline pumps were prohibitive. When the Barsha pump was implemented, farmers could farm different cash crops in the dry season as well, helping to increase their income level.In addition to commercial farms, aQysta also aims to support farmers who wish to shift from subsistence to commercial farming by providing irrigation facilities, in partnership with other development organizations.
