Six people were killed in a missile attack on the distribution center of a private postal company in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. 14 people were injured. The attack took place last Saturday night.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in a post on social media Telegram that an office of the Nova Poshta company in Kharkiv was attacked. Nova Poshta is a private postal and courier company in Ukraine.
Pictures taken from the scene showed windows of the building blown out in the attack. Zelensky posted these photos on his Telegram account.
Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Siniehubov said all the injured were employees of the postal company. Their age is between 19 to 42 years. Seven of the 14 hospitalized are in critical condition.
Zelensky said rescue operations are underway. Emergency services personnel are working at the scene.
Russia has not yet commented on the attack. However, Russia has repeatedly claimed that it does not target any civilian areas in Ukraine.
Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine. Its location is only 30 km from the Russian border. The northeastern city was heavily bombed in the first few weeks after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Earlier this month, Kharkiv Mayor Ihar Terekhov said Ukraine's first underground school had been established to ensure the city's children could continue their education safely.
Meanwhile, since last June, Ukraine has been conducting a counter-operation against the Russian forces in the southern region. However, this campaign is going on very slowly. Through this they have regained control of very few areas so far.
Russia strongly criticized Washington for Biden's speech
Russia has strongly criticized Washington for US President Joe Biden's statement that aid to Ukraine and Israel is an investment in the future of the United States.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the criticism on the messaging app Telegram today.
Biden addressed the nation on Thursday local time. In his speech, he called aid to Ukraine and Israel an investment in America's future.
According to Biden, it's a smart investment. This investment will pay dividends for America's security from generation to generation. He also sought congressional support for renewed aid to Ukraine and Israel.
Maria, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, responded today to Biden's comments. He said Biden's investment-related comments prove the United States is not fighting for ideological reasons. They benefit from proxy wars.
Maria said Biden's comments exposed the US administration's betrayal of ethical standards.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the US administration talks about fighting for freedom and democracy. But now it is understood that there is only calculation behind it. Washington has always fooled the world by talking about values. But they never held these values.
New peace talks on Ukraine, Turkey will also be there
Turkey will take part in 'peace talks' next week to find a way to end the war in Ukraine. The two-day talks will be held in Malta. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, gave this information on Saturday after speaking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Mediterranean island nation of Malta said on Friday that it will host peace talks on Ukraine on October 28-29. Earlier similar meetings were held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last August and Copenhagen, Denmark last June.
After the phone conversation with Erdoğan, Zelenskiy said, "We talked about how the next phase of the peace talks will take place in Malta next week." Turkey will also participate in those talks. The dominant country will highlight their position there.'
It is assumed that Russia will not participate in the upcoming peace talks. Zelensky, meanwhile, said he would try to garner support there for his plan to restore peace.
Before this, representatives of about 40 countries, including China, India, the United States, and Ukraine, participated in the Jeddah Peace Talks. However, no service announcement was made at the end of the discussion.
Türkiye has previously mediated the Ukraine war. Turkey brokered a deal with Russia to open Black Sea ports to Ukrainian grain exports.
