With the acquisition of the German publisher Crypto vision, a specialist in cryptography, Atos’ cybersecurity activity will complement its solutions in the field of digital identity. More than sixty experts will thus join the Atos cybersecurity teams to lead projects on a European and international scale.
Atos continues its targeted acquisitions in cybersecurity. After the buyouts of Paladion, digital. Security, SEC Consult, and Motiv in 2020, the 2nd French SSII completes its solutions for securing digital identities this time. The group headed by Elie Girard has just signed an agreement to acquire Crypto vision, a German specialist in encryption technologies that work in the field of electronic identification. It develops and implements software, security solutions, and hardware for customers subject to very demanding regulations such as the public sector and defense. This transaction will particularly strengthen the activities of the French group in these two markets in Europe.
Contacted by the editorial staff, Atos specifies that the takeover of Crypto vision notably completes its portfolio on e-ID subjects made up of cards and ID nomic solutions. “It increases their functional coverage and makes it possible to respond to new projects and customers while increasing the value of Atos in this area. The Crypto vision product range also allows us to increase our technological coverage on the security of connected objects,” we were told.
More than sixty experts
Based in Gelsenkirchen, Crypto vision was co-founded in 1999 by Markus Hoffmeister, CEO, and Marco Smeja, CSO. In Germany, its products are certified by the BSI, the federal office for information security, and accredited by NATO. Internationally, the company is also working on large-scale projects such as the electronic identity card in Nigeria. Its workforce brings together more than sixty experts. At Atos, these teams “will join the activities dedicated to cybersecurity products in Germany, within which we are already developing identity and access management solutions and cryptographic solutions qualified by the BSI”, the French ESN told us...
With this takeover, Atos is counting on commercial synergies by accessing the network of resellers formed by Crypto vision and the technological partnerships that the latter has forged worldwide. The French group indicates that it is bringing to its side the relationships of trust that it has established with customers in the government sector in Europe. In terms of digital sovereignty, this merger strengthens the group’s ability to support Europe in the face of its strategic autonomy challenges, underlines Atos, recalling also that France and Germany are two important growth levers for its cybersecurity products.
A takeover finalized by the end of the 3rd quarter
More broadly, “this acquisition is part of Atos’ strategy to strengthen its presence, its capabilities and its portfolio of cybersecurity products worldwide”, also indicates Pierre Barnabé, Senior Executive Vice President, Head of the big data and cybersecurity division of Atos, in a press release. The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals, should be completed by the end of the 3rd quarter. In 2020, cloud, digital, security, and decarbonization activities accounted for 46% of Atos revenue, compared to 40% in 2019. In the medium term, the French ESN aims to carry this mix of activities as 65% of its turnover.
Alongside the takeover of Crypto vision, Atos is carrying out two other targeted takeovers: in PLM with Processing and in AI-based video analytics via Ipsotek.
