How Atkins Right For You

Atkins food is very popular, but is it good for you? Before you start going downhill with a low-carb diet, you should take the time to decide if low-carb is the right way to lose weight. Just because it works well for others does not mean it will be good for you. No specific diet works for everyone, and you may find that a low-carb diet works best for you. There are many things to consider before you start an Atkins diet.

LOW-FAT DIETS

First, check your past diet history. If you are trying to lose weight for a long time, you will no doubt try a variety of foods. Note the different types of foods you have tried over the years. Write down the basics for each meal, what worked and what didn't. Also, write down why you did not stay on a certain diet. Rate your knowledge of foods high in carbohydrates. These foods include low-fat diets and calorie-controlled diets. How did you feel when you were on this type of food? Are you hungry, anxious over food, or experiencing a negative reaction? Or do you just feel full of energy and good looks?

If you have ever had a low-carb diet, write that down again. After the side effects of the first week, how did eating low-carb make you feel? Why stop consuming low-carb foods?

The answers to these questions will help you determine if Atkins are right for you. If you have had good experiences with low-fat diets and bad experiences with other low-carb foods, then Atkins is probably not for you. If other low-carb diets have worked but without weight loss, it is likely that you are in the wrong kind of low-carb diet and Atkins may work better. If you have ever had a bad experience with both types of foods, you may have a better success with the Atkins modified diet.

SYMPTOMS AND INDICATIONS FOR DECIDING ATKINS DIET

Your diet and behavior can give you an indication that Atkins is a good choice for your weight loss efforts. Carbohydrate sensitivity is indicated by a specific set of behaviors. You may have a sensitive carb if you feel like eating right after you have finished eating. You will feel a strong urge to eat all day. You may feel dizzy, lightheaded and tired without getting high on sugar or other carbohydrates. Carb sensitivity is also shown when you feel lazy after eating. This is especially true after eating sugary foods and carbohydrates. If you experience these symptoms regularly, you may experience carb sensitivity. Try to pay close attention to how carbohydrates affect you and if you continue to have these symptoms, try eating a low-carb diet.

ATKINS DIET IS BENEFICIAL FOR SEVERAL DISEASES

Your success in the Atkins diet can also be determined by your medical and family history. If you have pre-diabetes symptoms, or diabetes itself, a low-carb diet like Atkins may be right for you. Significant weight gain can also be aided by the Atkins diet. Usually, if you are overweight, you are more likely to have high blood pressure, high triglycerides and high blood sugar.

If any member of your family has diabetes or is overweight, this could put you at risk of these conditions. Your genetic predisposition to these genes may indicate the need for a low-carbohydrate diet like Atkins. The Atkins program has been shown to improve weight and control blood sugar issues. If these are problems in your family history, then you may want to consider the Atkins diet.

There are many good reasons to try the Atkins diet. Whether you have responded positively to other low-carb diets in the past or have a medical history that guarantees a controlled carbohydrate diet, the Atkins diet may meet your needs.
