Two girlfriends proved that age is no barrier to adventure travel. Even at the age of 81. Texas photographer Eli Humby and physician-lecturer Sandy Hezlip traveled the world in 80 days. They enjoyed an exciting trip from Bali, Indonesia to the deserts of Egypt.
According to a blog used by two girlfriends, these two girlfriends went on a world tour last January 11. First they go to a place which is attractive for any tourist. Yes, first they went to Antarctica.
To go to this southernmost continent, one has to cross the Drake Passage. This corridor of intense drought is located between the southernmost part of Latin America and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica.
"It took us two days to cross the drought corridor in adverse conditions," Hambi said. The situation was such that it seemed that I had passed on with life in my hands. We just had a wild time.'
Recalling the situation at that time, Hambi continued to say, 'But when we set foot on the soil of Antarctica, immediately we forget about those two days of nightmare. The beauty of Antarctica is incredible. The penguins, the icebergs, the glaciers—everything is amazing!'
These two girlfriends have traveled to 18 countries in 7 continents, starting from the perilous journey to Antarctica. Often they both wore the same t-shirt. Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook - all social media they got unlimited love from followers.
Sandy said that after her husband's death in 1997, she met Hambi at the 'Jammia Medical Mission'. Hambi and her husband managed the mission.
This mission develops a deep friendship between Humby and Sandy. They used to talk to each other about their travel interests. After the death of Hambi's husband in 2005, their friendship grew stronger.
Sandy said that shortly before the two turned 80, they came up with the idea of traveling the world. Thought is action.
Sandy said, 'The thought may be another reason, we have traveled many countries together. One day about 4 years before we turned 80, I said to Hamby, can't we enjoy something like traveling the world in 80 days when we are 80?'
Hamby and Sandy write on their website that they dedicate the trip to their husbands, Kelly and Don. They wrote, 'We miss you. Aha! If you could join us on this exciting trip!
Sandy said, after reaching the age of 80, they made the final plan in 2022. Earlier they could not implement the plan on time due to Covid-19. But Covid could not stop them completely. He said, "That's why we came out this year. Our world tour motto is “81 years and still running”.
In the past three months, the two girlfriends have ridden camels in Egypt, seen elephants in Bali, danced in Nepal, observed the Northern Lights in Finland.Although there were many challenges in the world tour, they completed the journey without any trouble.Hambi said, "Both of us are independent and stubborn in nature.
