To murder each other.
Next, there was human interaction in a multiplayer environment. The first such game was called DUNGEON. In the dungeon, players competed against each other to complete a series of quests. DUNGEON will display new settings and players each time the user logs in.
The video game epidemic began in the late 1970s, with more and more homes learning computer literacy. As a corollary, people started writing their own games for home computers. These programming enthusiasts have traded and sold these homemade games in the local market.
The first recognized example of a game machine was unveiled by Dr. Edward Uhler, London, at the New York World’s Fair in 1940. The game, based on the ancient mathematical game of Him, was played by about 50,000 people during the six months it was on display, with the computer reportedly winning more than 90 percent of the games.
However, the first game system designed for commercial home use did not emerge until nearly three decades later, when Ralph Bayer and his team released his prototype, the “Brown Box,” in 1967. The “Brown Box” was a vacuum tube-circuit that could be connected to a television set and allowed two users to control cubes that chased each other on the screen. The “Brown Box” could be programmed to play a variety of games, including ping pong, checkers and four sports games. Using advanced technology for this time, added accessories included a light gun for a target shooting game, and a special attachment used for a golf putting game.
Other changes in the 1970s were home video game consoles with game cartridges. This means that instead of using a bulky game console system, you can collect game cartridges for your base unit.
80s-Break before the Storm
In the 1980s, there was a growing enthusiasm for video and computer games, but online games were not yet in sight. A new game with better sound and graphics was introduced and became popular. Pole position and Pac-Man were two of the most popular. Nintendo first introduced the game system in the 1980s.
490s-The Revolution Begins
In the 1990s, tremendous growth was seen in both popularity and technology, primarily due to the rise of 3D and multimedia.
Intellectual Adventure, Game Mist, introduced CD-ROM format play. Flashy 3D graphics hardware enables FPS (FIRST-PERSON Person Shooter) games like Quake.
In the late 1990s, online games became very popular due to the exponential growth of the Internet and MUD (Multi-User Dungeon). The new and improved graphical interface allows people from all over the world to compete not only in FPS games, but also in real-time strategy (RTS) games and third-person games such as Grand Theft Auto.
This is also the time when websites began offering free online flash games such as Tetris, Ping-Pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario, and non-flash based games that you can play for free after registration.
Gaming consoles became popular in arcades, bars, restaurant chains, and commercial centers in the US during the early 70s. This period was marked by the invention of microprocessors by Intel and many other technological advancements. This period was also marked by the first multiplayer combat shooter game called Gunfight.
