Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take college courses online? These entries will give you a taste of how online classes are conducted and what you need to do as a student to be successful. The lesson I take is a Master's in Computer Education course.
Monday
I log on to WebCT, my online study software for schools, to pick up my weekly email from the subject teacher. It gives the details of the assignments we need to complete this week, the interviews we should submit, and including an update for future exams. Although a list of assignments for this week is available on the WebCT syllabus, I appreciate having this weekly reminder of what I need to complete this week.
I realize that new marks have been added to some of the previous jobs I have already posted. I am happy with the result and note the comments he has made for future use.
Tuesday
Today, I pulled out a book and read the assigned chapter. I have used sticky notes to mark important categories that I may need to review later. Some people prefer to mark the book directly with highlighters, but I prefer stickers. There is also a Powerpoint presentation with 30 slides.
Wednesday
There is a video I have to watch. It is available online or I can download it from the cd the professor gave you at the beginning of the lesson. Since I have a high bandwidth connection, I download and distribute it directly from WebCT.
Thursday to Saturday
These days I often work on one of my studies or not at all. As a procrastinator, I usually postpone written assignments until Sunday, or Saturday if there are too many. I read the assignments on Monday so that I can think about them as I travel to or from work or have some rest.
Sunday
I am preparing for my written assignment. Then I go to WebCT in the appropriate section and download the Word document and the professor naming conference. After uploading, the work to be done is marked as posted and I receive an email confirming my success.
My last job is to prepare a response to the “church discussion questions” on the WebCT bulletin board for this study. I scan previous posts and reply to interests. Finally, I send my answer to the question and post it. I am reviewing next week's schedule to prepare for the next week. Another week is over.
I have taken many courses at UNT through WebCT and other programs offered by the University. The university is only 30 miles away so I also take face-to-face classes, because I really like the interaction of the class. I like both ways. You can choose one or the other, you will not know until you try. No one knows most of things untile they applay and try by thier self.
