This glacier often forms a dam inside Lake Argentina. This occurs when the glacier grows across a tributary extending to the south side of the lake and divides the lake in two. It is common for the glacier base to become a natural barrier as it grows well like a wall. But there will be huge differences in water levels on both sides. In the southern tributary, known as Brazo Rico, the water level rises to 30 feet above Lake Argentino. This difference is caused by the melting glacier. After a certain limit, the water pressure in Brazo Rico could not withstand and the dam would burst and fall into Lake Argentino. It will take at least five years for the glacier to grow again and reach the part where the wall forms. The last major crash was in 2013. In 2016, 2018 and 2019, the barrier was slightly broken. The small part of the iceberg is considered to be a natural wonder and attracts a large number of tourists.
