Coronavirus Vaccine Registration, Coronavirus Omicron Variant Cases in India Live: India reported 6,822 new cases of Coronavirus and 220 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the data shared by the Health Ministry. The country’s active caseload currently stands at 95,014 which is the lowest in 554 days.
Corporation chief Vijay Suryavanshi on Monday informed that out of 295 recent foreign returnees in Thane district, 100 were untraceable. He said the mobile phones of some of these people were switched off while many of the last given addresses were found to be locked, news agency PTI reported. Keeping in view the rise in Omicron cases in India, this is a worrying situation for the state government as well as the state. Two more cases of the new Omicron variant were reported from Maharashtra on December 6, taking India’s total tally to 23. Both of these individuals were fully vaccinated and - returned from abroad last month. The situation in Maharashtra is being closely monitored by the state government. State Health Minister Rajesh Top had earlier said that any decision on reimposing restrictions in Maharashtra will be taken only after seeking the Center's guidance and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s views, news agency PTI reported. World Health Organization has categorized the new Coronavirus variant as the ‘Variant of Concern’ because experts have claimed that Omicron might possess some specific characteristics owing to the genetic modification in the virus. Most of the people who have tested Omicron positive have either recently arrived from African countries or had come in contact with such people. Amid the increasing number of cases of the new Covid variant, pictures of chaos at Delhi airport had also gone viral on Monday, The Minister directed the airport authorities to implement better crowd management strategies. Scindia had called a meeting with officials of the Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Immigration, and GMR group-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), reported PTI. Delhi Airport had later tweeted that it had updated the testing capacity at international arrival with the deployment of 120 Rapid PCR machines, taking hourly capacity to 500-600 per hour with a TAT of fewer than 60 minutes. The Center had issued a revised guideline for international travelers, which came into effect on December 1. The guidelines are to be followed across airports in India. All travelers have to go through RT-PCR tests on arrival, and their test results have to be negative in to leave the airport. Eight more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sikkim in the last 24 hours, taking the Himalayan state’s virus tally to 32,382, a Health Department bulletin said. The COVID-19 death toll in the state stood at 405 as no fatality was reported in the past 24 hours, the bulletin said. The fresh infections have taken the number of active cases to 198, while 341 others have migrated to other states and 31,438 persons have recovered from the disease. East Sikkim has so far registered the highest number of cases at 18,031 followed by 7,133 in South Sikkim, 6,205 in West Sikkim, and 671 in North Sikkim. The state has so far tested 2,72,855 samples for COVID-19. (PTI)
