Everyone loves reading other people's success stories. This provides us with proof that extraordinary things happen to ordinary people.
By learning what they did to be successful, we ourselves take another step closer to success. Such is the case with the ten stories told in Net Entrepreneurs Only - 10 Entrepreneurs Tell Their Success Stories by Gregory K. Erick sen and Ernst and Young.
Erick sen interviewed ten of the most successful entrepreneurs at the turn of the century and presents their stories with a use of unique but effective, lengthy contractor quotes.
The quotes leave you feeling like you've actually interviewed the entrepreneur yourself, rather than reading a story about them.
Each story is around 20 pages, but reads more like 10 pages due to the large print and steady pace. The 10 entrepreneurs mentioned in the book are Jay S. Walker (priceline.com), Mike McNulty and Mike Hagar (Vertically), Christina Jones (recorder), William Porter and Christos Cottages (E*Trade), Gregory K. Jones (bid), Russell Horowitz (Go2Net), Ken Pasternak (Knight/Trim ark), William Schrader (Paint), Pierre Midyear (eBay) and Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner (broadcast.com).
Had a different way of getting there, but after reading all ten stories, you can see some commonalities between these highly successful network entrepreneurs. Although this book was written at a time when Internet business success was much easier (the book was published in 2000), many of the key skills these entrepreneurs have can be applied anytime, anytime.
Industry. Everyone is extremely passionate about what they do to the point of inspiring others around them to have the same passion. Not everyone is afraid to take a risk, whether others disagree or not. Along with this, everyone knows that failure is inevitable when taking risks and understands that future success depends on the ability to learn from failure and move forward.
Another interesting thing that was mentioned in three of the ten stories is the fear of being caught off guard by an opponent they don't see coming. Everyone talks about the proverbial guy in their basement or garage who comes out with some tech that knocks them out.
When you talk about Mark Cuban, Todd Wagner said, "I know marking sons, among other things, on the 12-year-old proverbial in the garage [which comes with technological discoveries] and blinding us.
I won't spoil the individual surprises, but there has been a wide range of directions these businesses and entrepreneurs have taken since the dot-com crash. Some of the entrepreneurs we've all heard of (Mark Cuban) and some of the businesses we know are still around and very successful (eBay), but many are unfamiliar to the average reader.
Doing research to find out where they are today adds an extra dimension to the book that a reader wouldn't have known if they had read it when it first came out. Network-Only Entrepreneurs - 10 Entrepreneurs Tell Their Success Stories by Gregory K.
Erickson and Ernst and Young is fascinating for anyone who loves a good success story. Still, it's truly inspiring if you're that entrepreneur struggling to find the next revolutionary twist that knocks out one of these ten entrepreneurs.
