Assistant Dietician Rekha Pal Shah of AIIMS New Delhi says that many people eat oily, sweet, fruits, dry fruits, etc. in the name of fasting more than normal days, this can cause harm rather than benefit from fasting. Rekha is showing some such food-related mistakes that people make during fasting and it can harm their health or do not benefit from fasting.
What to do and not to do during fasting
1- To maintain energy, take a diet consisting of protein and carbohydrates. Eat less fatty foods.
2- During fasting, take food such as fruits, milk, juice, which keeps the body getting the necessary calories throughout the day.
3- Do not keep fast just by drinking tea or lemonade. It is very important to take solid food as well.
4- In fasting, eating bread instead of Singhada or Kuttu flour puri or paratha is more healthy.
5- Acidity can be increased by having an empty stomach. Therefore, do not keep the stomach empty for too long.
6- Eating citrus fruits on an empty stomach can cause irritation. Eat watermelon, cucumber, apple instead of lemon, orange, mousambi.
7- Instead of doing a lot of fruit once in a while, it is beneficial to have something like fruit salad or curd.
8- Coconut water can be taken several times a day. It will also provide the necessary nutrients and electrolytes of the body.
9. Drink maximum water during fasting. This will keep the body hydrated and clean the inside.
10- During fasting, eating dry fruits like peanuts, almonds, walnuts will keep your stomach full and also get energy.
