What is a Leap year?
Yes! you know that, and you are right. "Leap year is the year that comes once every four years, Where February has 29 days instead of 28 days".
Why is it needed?
We need a Leap year to create periods in the name of Calender's to calculate the time. Earth takes about 365 days and a quarter day to complete its one-cycle rotation on the sun. So, for every four years, an extra day is being cumulated. To compensate for it, February receives an extra day once every four years.
The Calender would have drifted by 24 days every Hundred years, causing an inconsistent time frame for seasonal changes.
But the problem is that it is still not perfectly corrected as the Earth orbits the sun in 11 minutes, 14 seconds less than the time (365 and quarter days)
A correction in 1582 adds a leap year once in 400 years. If 2000 is a leap year, then 2400 will be the next one in the queue.
This technique would solve the time gap and avoid periodic deviations.
