Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro Under Development; where May Come With New Tensor GS201 SoC, Samsung Exynos Modem:

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have started doing rounds of the rumor mill. The next-generation flagship smartphones from Google are said to use the second-generation Google Tensor SoC along with a new Samsung Exons modem. The report, which shares these key specifications, also mentions the internal model designations for Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, the second-gen Google Tensor SoC, and the Samsung Exons modem. Apart from that, not much else is known about the upcoming Google Pixel 7 series.\\\

As per a report by 9to5Google, Google is busy developing this year's flagship smartphones — Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. But the report does not mention when the search giant will launch the next-generation Pixel smartphones. Going by the history of when Google has launched the previous Pixel flagship smartphones, the upcoming Pixel 7 series could launch somewhere around October this year. The upcoming Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are said to have Cheetah and Panther as their internal model designations, respectively.\\\

The report also mentions that the upcoming Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be powered by Google Tensor GS201 SoC, which has Cloud ripper as its internal model designation. Furthermore, the SoC will be accompanied by a new Samsung Exons 5300 modem — with Ravenclaw as Google's internal designation — that is yet to be unveiled by Samsung. The report claims that these specifications were discovered after Google released the Android 13 developer preview. Apart from this, not much else is known about the specifications of the two upcoming Pixel flagship smartphones as of now.\\\

Another interesting thing to note here is the obvious feline reference with the coded names. Every Pixel and Nexus device preceding the Pixel 6 series had coded names about fish or other sea life. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro changed the trend by opting for code names “Oriole” and “Raven,” respectively, which are birds. From this, it can be said that Google is possibly changing the code naming scheme on a generational basis, although it would take a couple of more Pixel phone generations to know for sure.\\\

Apart from the above, there isn’t much known about the Pixel series set for a fall release this year, but we should be gaining more info as we inch closer to its launch.\\\

Google has reportedly changed the nomenclature pattern for its Pixel smartphones. All Nexus and Pixel smartphones that launched before the Google Pixel 6 series were named after fish or other forms of life found in the sea. Last year's flagship smartphones — The pixel 6 series — were given the code names Oriole and Raven. This year, Google is going to use feline-based code names for its smartphones.\\\

Ravenclaw could hark back to a Hogwarts reference, it could mean something else entirely. The report suggests that the Ravenclaw code name could be a mashup of two elements — the Pixel 6 Pro shell and Tensor GS201 SoC. But since there is no official confirmation about any of this from Google, the information about the code names and their meaning should be considered speculative at best.\\\

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are only a few months old, but Google is hard at work on the next hardware generation. Most recent leaks have detailed the supposed foldable Pixel phone, but now we might have the first details about the next mainline Pixel devices.\\\

A new report has given us perhaps the first concrete details on Google’s next-gen flagship phones — the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro — including their code names, the processor they’ll be powered by, and their modem.\\\

Folks at 9toGoogle last year spotted a reference to a new version of the chip that currently powers the Pixel 6 series. The next-gen Tensor, code-named “Cloud ripper,” carried model number GS201 and is expected to power the Pixel 7 series.\\\

Fast-forward to now and the release of Android 13 DP1 has brought to light some further information about said chip along with other stuff, as reported by 9to5Google once again\\\

A trusted source of developer cstark27 spotted that the GS201 chip will feature a currently unreleased Samsung modem with the model number “g5300b.” The Pixel 6 meanwhile comes with “g5123b,” which is the Exons Modem 5123. Given the correlation, it is likely that the unreleased modem is Exons Modem 5300, and it will handle the new Tensor’s connectivity bits.\\\

The code also revealed three additional device code names associated with the Exons Modem 5300. Two of these are “Cheetah” and “Panther” and most likely stand for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.\\\ Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro-code-names might be ‘Cheetah’ and ‘Panther\\\’

According to 9to5Google, the first Android 13 Developer Preview reportedly includes more references to the Tensor GS202 chipset, which will likely appear in Google’s future Pixel phones (the Pixel 6 has a GS101). The new System-on-a-Chip reportedly uses an unreleased Samsung modem with the model number “g5300b,” which has a higher number than the “g5123b” modem in the Pixel 6, which is officially called the Exons Modem 5123.\\\

It probably won’t shock anyone that an upcoming Pixel phone will have an unreleased modem and a new Tensor chip, but the teardowns also revealed the possible code names for the new phones. The updated modem is listed alongside three device names: Cloud ripper (likely a development board), Cheetah, and Panther. It’s not clear yet which of those two names could be the Pixel 7, and which could be the Pixel 7 Pro (or whatever Google calls its high-end phone this year).\\\

Google has used a unique code name for every Nexus and Pixel phone to date. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were Oriole and Raven, respectively, while the Pixel 5a was barbed, — all species of birds. Before that, Google mostly stuck to aquatic creatures. The Pixel 5 was Redfin, the Pixel 4a 5G was Bramble, the Pixel 4a was Sunfish, the Pixel 4 XL was Coral, and so on.\\\

Google also found another code name tied to the new modem, called Ravenclaw, which could be a mid-generation upgrade or third variant. It’s too early to tell right now, but the story will likely become clearer over the coming months.\\\
