Gone are the edges and square corners and cold metal of the second generation model, replaced by an amazing use of glass with a metal structure. Together, they create one of the best phones for absolute comfort. At the back, Google used a combination of two different glass finishes to create this classic two-tone Pixel look (as if it had been dipped in chocolate). So it still looks like a pixel, but it feels better. Most of the time, the flat glass tilts towards the rounded edges, making it solid and ergonomic. Moreover, this frosted glass is not as prone to slipping furniture as some only shiny smartphones. The fact that the Pixel 3 is relatively narrow – and smaller than its brother “XL,” as the name suggests, also means that it is one of the few phones available on the Android market that is easy to use with one hand. There is no need to constantly stretch or readjust your socket, which has become commonplace with so many phones. We saw elsewhere that frosted glass was easier to scratch than most glossy finishes, but we didn’t have the slightest risk of scratching it on our test unit. However, as with all smartphones, we advise you not to store it in the same compartment as your keys or any other hard object. One of the other design choices we really like is the thinner bezel around the screen. Admittedly, compared to the recent generation of high-end smartphones, the Pixel 3 cases are still quite large, but they are much smaller than last year’s Pixel 2. but the upper and lower executives never really interfere with the use. In addition, there is room for powerful front speakers. The media, games and all the other sounds go through these speakers so loud that we had to turn the volume down. There may be a slight difference in the bass response between the speaker near the earpiece and the one near the bottom edge, but this remains an excellent result, which is fairly well balanced with regard to the phone speakers. Complete it with a water and dust-resistant sealed chassis, and you get a really great design. It is set by default on ‘Adaptive’, but ‘Natural’ and ‘Boosted’ are also available. Android 9 Pie – in its improved, pure and Pixel-based form – is a great software experience packed with great animations, sensitive notifications and useful changes compared to previous versions. It also benefits from new battery and screen time management features. There is also a gesture-based navigation system, similar to the iPhone X/XS. Except that in the pixel, it is not as intuitive to master, at least not at first. A swipe up reveals the multitasking screen of recent apps, while another swipe reveals the app drawer. Or, you can just do a long scan to open the app drawer. It takes a little learning and feels a little heavy at first, but you’ll get used to it soon.
