PIXEL 4: HATE IT OR LOVE IT

Google Pixel 4 is one of the phones we have been looking forward to the most this entire year for 2019. As pixel series is the exclusive flagship smartphone series from google, it was a significant hype for a couple of reasons. Let us see them one by one:

VARIANTS

Pixel 4 comes in two sizes the PIXEL 4, and the PIXEL 4 XL and are available in three colors which google like to call 'White,' 'Just Black' and 'Oh So Orange'

DESIGN

2019 has treated us with phones having motorized, pop-out selfie cameras; entire displays that slide down to reveal lenses; the narrowest of bezels; and exotic, dazzling exterior finishes. If these are the things you're looking for in your next handset, you should probably look elsewhere, because the Pixel 4 has none of them. Let's start with the way it looks. It is a pretty decent looking phone, with the clean and well-designed back but the notion of nothing new continues here too with the same old colors and design. Matte aluminum rails are the part of the design around the phone and a colored power button ... of course! The back of the phone is a soft-touch matte finish glass (the matte orange version), which does a job of not sticking fingerprints and keeps away scratches. Moreover, 2019 is the year of square camera bumps and pixel series also offers a square camera bump on the back. The front part is its worse feature with a giant forehead... I mean in the era of screen-to-body ratios. Well, the reason for this giant forehead is different and really surprising! Talk about it later

THE DISPLAY

The pixel has been greatly improved from its last generation in the display criteria... despite of the huge forehead... The Pixel 4 XL comes with a 6.3" P-OLED panel (1440 x 3040), 5.7" on the regular pixel, both with a whopping 90 Hz refresh rate, protected with gorilla glass 5. Which means a super-smooth display experience but is still far from the brightest.

BATTERY: NOT GOOD ENOUGH

The Pixel 4 offers a 2800 mAh battery, one of the smallest I have seen in a while. While the Pixel 4 XL comes with a 3700 mAh battery, the battery life turns to be okay on these devices due to smart optimization by the software. "The Pixel 4's battery life is not only worse than the Pixel 3's; it's well off the longevity of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and Galaxy S10."

CAMERAS

The large square bump comes with just two cameras, disappointing? I know…. A 12 Mega Pixel primary camera and a 16 MP 2X telephoto camera on the rear and an 8 MP sensor on the front. Google had been ruling the smartphone camera department for the last few years; this one is no different. With excellent quality pictures, high dynamic range, and a telephoto lens Google's smartphones have long been renowned for their cameras, but the best thing about Pixel 4 is that it's about so much more than the photos you can take with it. Nonetheless, Google has produced yet another class-leading camera phone with the Pixel 4. However, with no Ultra full sensor and pictures typically the same as the pixel 3 and average low light performance, pixel 4 still lacks.

PERFORMANCE: BEYOND THE NUMBERS

It is a flagship device, and as any other flagship smartphone released this year, both the pixels come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and Adreno 640 GPU. But AI technology makes the device faster and smoother while optimizing battery usage and chipset load.

FACE UNLOCK AND MOTION SENSE

we hope the Pixel 4's three-dimensional Face Unlock system would work well because there's no fingerprint sensor to fall back on. Much like Apple's Face ID technology, Google's policy unites an array of infrared cameras, a flood illuminator, and a dot projector to identify your face reliably. It is, of course, the fastest face unlock on any smartphone right now, but google could have quickly gone for the in-display finger reader that would have been much better. While the face opens on the pixel is not new tech, it even works while your eyes are closed, though Google has come under scrutiny for this; the company is working to deliver an optional setting in an update that forces the phone to confirm attention before unlocking.

FEATURES THAT MAKES IT 'THE GOOGLE PIXEL 4'

Pixel 4 launches with Android 10 and all the software features that makes it almost a year ahead of all existing smartphones. Remember the prominent forehead we considered, it has a great piece of hardware in it. The most surprising is what google calls 'Radar Gestures.' It is a feature that enables you to control the device without even touching it. This feature is seen in the pixel 4 only, and this makes it THE PIXEL 4.

BOTTOM LINE

When compared to the other flagships in the market right now, the google pixel 4 fades. So there are only polarizing opinions about the device due to its no-newness and substantial pricing. Also, no major upgrade from its predecessor. Previous Pixels came with unlimited original-quality photo storage in Google Photos for several years, but surprisingly, Google has eliminated this hugely beneficial perk. Images captured on your Pixel 4 count against your Google Photos storage cap if stored at full quality, just like on any other device. If you're low on space, you can back up content at "high" quality, but those pictures and videos will be compressed. And the device is not coming to India.
