Give bones a dose of lukewarm sunshine

According to an estimate, 65–70 percent of India's population is deficient in vitamin D. There are more cases of deficiency in women than men, due to menstruation and pregnancy. The IMA has launched a campaign to raise awareness of vitamin D deficiency, 'Rise and Shine', as sun rays are the best source of vitamin D. The flourishing of flat culture, the increasing trend of gadgets and the increasing use of air conditioners have imprisoned people in the boundary wall. In such a situation, it is very important to get out of the house and enjoy the sun for a while. Then what better weather than winter to sunbathe.

Vitamin D helps calcium absorption by controlling calcium and phosphate in the body. It is very important for the functioning of the nervous system and the strengthening of bones. Vitamin D increases the body's immunity. Its proper amount in the body reduces the risk of high blood pressure. There are five forms of Vitamin D - D1, D2, D3, D4, D5. Vitamin D2 and D3 are most important for the human body. These are jointly called 'calciferol'.   Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is found in foods and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is made in our body by the rays of the sun. If we can get D2 from food, then even slight exposure to sun rays can help the body to build D3. Vitamin D is found in small amounts in foods, so it is important to spend some time in the sun every day. It is fat-soluble, so its deficiency is seen more in obese people.

Vitamin D test: With the 25 hydroxyvitamin D test, you can know how much vitamin D is in your body. Why there is deficiency: With aging, vitamin D deficiency in the body decreases, because vitamin D formation is reduced by up to 75 percent in the elderly. Other reasons for vitamin D deficiency include- being in constant air condition, lack of outdoor activity, covering the body due to any reasons, obesity, etc. So if you are deficient in vitamin D, then sit in the sun and if not, sit still so that it does not happen in the future.
