According to Gautam Gambhir, as long as there is open communication between the players and the management, there is nothing wrong with the Indian T20 team losing experienced players like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli.
Beginning on January 3, India will play Sri Lanka in three 20-over matches. For the time being, all indications point to Kohli and Rahul having been rested for that series, while Rohit is thought to still be recovering from a finger injury he suffered three weeks ago in Bangladesh. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a veteran fast bowler, is also out of favour. Hardik Pandya, who was largely expected to win the position in the first place, has been chosen India's temporary T20 captain alongside Suryakumar As Deputy.
Gambhir, a former India batter, said, "There should be clarity," during an engagement sponsored by Star Sports on Thursday. "The selectors and these players should communicate well. So be it if the selectors have chosen to look past these individuals. I believe many nations have already done it.
"We raise too much of a fuss when management and selectors pass on particular people. In the end, what matters is how you want to approach your plans for the following [T20] World Cup [in 2024], because you want to enter that tournament and win it. If these individuals weren't able to accomplish it, you just never know, in my opinion. The younger generation, including Suryakumar, has the potential to fulfil that dream."
Gambhir emphasised the necessity of having specific plans in place for the 2024 T20 World Cup, but at this time, he is having trouble visualising how Rohit, Kohli, and Rahul will fit into those plans.

Samson may get a chance to cement his place in the Indian team during the Sri Lanka T20Is. He has only played three consecutive games once since making his debut in 2015, and in 16 T20Is, he has only scored one half-century—a 42-ball 77 against Ireland at Malahide in June 2022. His performance in the IPL, where he has scored the sixth-most runs over the past three years, is a stark contrast to this.
Samson's close friend and coworker at the Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, thinks India might be missing out on some of Samson's best years, but that there is still time to make up for it.
