With an ideal chipset like the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, Samsung just needs to get the pricing right for the Galaxy S23 FE
The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1’s biggest differentiation was that it is mass-produced on TSMC’s efficient 4nm process, the same one used for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm switching foundries from Samsung to TSMC introduced the heftiest upgrade in both performance and power efficiency, making it the suitable silicon for the Galaxy S23 FE. With the flagship Exynos range not being produced for the time being, a global launch can positivelyaffect Samsung’s sales simply because potential buyers are well-informed about the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 from before.
If you are unaware of its performance, note that it was able to beat Apple’s A15 Bionic in a gaming test, so it means business. At this stage, using the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23 FE is not an option for Samsung because it will be pricier to purchase from Qualcomm than acquiring the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. Secondly, using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would undercut the Galaxy S23 series, which would be detrimental to Samsung’s sales, so if the latest rumor ends up true, then it would have been the right business decision.
As for the pricing, that variable is something we are unaware of right now. Given that the Galaxy S23 series starts from $799.99 in the U.S., Samsung can charge maybe $150 less, bringing the total to $649.99 for the Galaxy S23 FE, if we are lucky. It is possible the Korean manufacturer charges customers $699.99 whilefollowing other cost-cutting measures such as using a plastic back instead of glass and downgrading the cameras a little bit. Then again, this model will be targeted at those who want flagship-class hardware at an acceptable price.
On Twitter, ‘Connor / 코너 / コナー,’ who goes by the handle @OreXda, claims to have ‘exclusive’ information surrounding the Galaxy S23 FE, stating that the upcoming smartphone will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. For those that do not know, Qualcomm unveiled this SoC on May 20, and it is better in every way compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Although it might look concerning, Samsung has come to the rescue and talked about how there is nothing wrong with the phone. The reason why some parts appear squashed or pressed is the pressing process for waterproofing and dustproofing. The company further ensures that everything with the phone is exactly how it should be.
Thankfully, Samsung was quick to mention that all the Galaxy S23 Ultra units displaying this artifact are completely fine. Otherwise, this could have resulted in more negative output as far as the overall experience is concerned.
However, I have to point out that this is the first time I have seen a similar thing on a Samsung phone. My Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy S21 Ultra before that did not have a similar issue. As a matter of fact, the phones looked completely clean. This suggests that Samsung may have made some changes to the process by which the company fits the screen along with the rest of the components. Still, the company claims that this will not affect the performance or lifespan of the device, so we are all good to go.
