Fear Of Driving And Automatic Negative Thoughts (why)

Fear of driving is often complicated, if not caused, by human negative thinking. These thoughts can be frightening and irrational, such as worrying about how to get around the bridge or walk off the bridge, or it may focus on a person's physical feelings of anxiety such as rapid heartbeat or dizziness. These thoughts are often described as a very disturbing sign of driving anxiety and can be the real causes of panic attacks while driving. Controlling these thoughts is essential for success in eliminating driving phobia.

The state of mind

Sometimes it is advisable for a person who is afraid to drive diligently to try to stop his negative thoughts. While this is well-intentioned and the goal is certainly to reduce the number of these disturbing thoughts, the process is flawed in nature. Requiring a person to remember what he does not think shows that he has already thought. It’s like telling them not to think about green bananas. The first thing they will think of is a blue banana because the very act of remembering what you do not think requires thought that is intended to be avoided. Visual aids for stopping or snatching a rubber band to train the mind to no longer think unfortunately is a commonly recommended method that can be recommended.

Scheduled Anxiety Time

Anxiety time sets aside certain time periods during the day, usually in the morning and in the evening, in order to devote ourselves to allowing these thoughts to continue. For example, the common perception associated with fear of driving is that you are trapped and unable to escape and lose control. With this idea, one will force oneself to read the thought twice a day for a set period of time. The purpose is twofold. First, the thought becomes stronger as the person begins to lose interest in it after repeatedly playing the game mentally. Second, the procedure teaches a person to postpone his anxiety until a certain time, which may allow him to postpone the anxiety permanently.

We have seen moderate success in this way with very distant thoughts or some fear of driving. For example, if there is a particular disturbing bridge, but not the bridges in general. For fear of driving altogether, there are many scary ideas to use this process effectively for a long time. Nor does it encourage acceptance and understanding of the dreaded thoughts and feelings that are so important to success.

Creative Viewing

Most of those who have irrational, coercive, and fearful thoughts associated with the fear of driving are very intelligent and intelligent people. Many of the troubling thoughts they have are not based on historical or factual evidence (they probably never respond in the way they are afraid, yet fear remains), and are created by their overly creative idea. These skills allow a phobic person to play emotional situations in a convincing way, and this in reality helps to perpetuate fear. The Driving Fear Program, which focuses on treating anxiety, and driving anxiety, has improved the way it uses these creative skills to eliminate rather than perpetuate anxious thoughts. It actually allows the same factors that created fear to eliminate fear.
