FASTag mandatory for all vehicles from Dec 1

Recently Road trpt and Highway Minister NITIN GADKARI has announced that FASTag will be mandatory for both commercial as well as private vehicles from Dec1,2019 onwards. Hence, its important for us to know all about Fastag and penalty for default.

  1.  What are Fastags and how to buy and activate them? 

FASTags are prepaid rechargeable tags for the collection of toll which allow hassle free automatic payment via deduction form said tag. These are generally affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle. As soon as your vehicle crosses the toll, the toll tax will automaticlly get deducted from your wallet(i.e. Bank ac or prepaid wallet) linked with your FAStag. These FASTags dont carry any expiry date as long as they are Untempered and readable at the plaza.

Currently you can buy your FASTag from any of 22 certified banks and also from E-commerce platform such as Amazon. After buying your FASTag, you need to make it functional by activating it.

Activation can be done in 2 ways:

 A) Self-Activation

The online FASTags is based on the concept of DIY(Do-it-Yourself) where a person can self activate the FASTag by netring their vehicle details in the 'MY FASTag' app from 'Google Play Store' or 'Apple Store'.

B) Activate by visiting certified bank branch

One can also buy FASTag by visiting the nearby certified branch and get the tag linked to their Bank A/c.

 *KYC Documentation is mandatory for the activation and also the RC of vehcile is required.      

2. How to recharge FASTags? 

If your FASTags is linked with a Bank A/c, you dont have to add money seprately in a prepaid wallet, however if the Fastags is linked to a prepaid wallet, then you can recharge it via UPI/Dr.card/Cr.Card/NEFT/Net Banking.

*For LIMITED KYC FASTags ac Holder:At a time you can not have more than 20,000RS in your FASTags wallet and also the reload limit is also capped at Rs.20,000/-.

*For FULL TIME KYC FASTags AC HOLDER: These Ac holders can not have more than Rs1lac in their FASTags prepaid wallet and also their is no limit on re-loading.

3. Penalties and other Point to be note

a)No FASTag will bring double the amt of Toll to the Vehicle Owner.

b)One FASTag can be use for only one vehicle, thus you have to buy seprate FAStag for your second vehicle and so on.

c)Person residing within 10Km range of Toll can avail special benefit by submitting their documents of Residency Proof.
