After nearly two decades, the number of Facebook users is still increasing. And now the Meta-owned social platform has hit the milestone of two billion daily active users.
The news emerged as of Meta's fourth quarter. According to the report, the social platform reached two billion daily users by adding 1.6 million users for the first time in the last quarter.
WhatsApp, another social platform owned by Meta, recently crossed the two billion daily user mark. It turns out that Meta isn't the first proprietary platform to reach this goal. However, Facebook is the company's biggest source of advertising revenue. Meanwhile, the company has made massive layoffs in its own business in recent months.
The key theme of our management system in 2023 will be the 'Year of Efficiency'." -- Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement, hinting at the company's recent restructuring.
Earlier, the company laid off more than 11,000 employees.
"Generative AI is an exciting new field, with a wide variety of applications." -- said Zuckerberg.
"One of my various goals for R Meta is to build our research to lead the generative AI sector."
Meta has already raked in huge sums of money behind investments in the Metaverse. According to Meta, in the fourth quarter of 2022, the "Reality Labs" in charge of overseeing the company's VR, AR and various metaverse projects lost 403 million dollars and about 1400 million dollars in the whole year.
Meta himself also predicted even more financial losses for Reality Labs next year.
"Our estimates suggest that the financial losses behind Reality Labs will increase in 2023 as well." -- said Suzanne Lee, Meta's chief financial officer.
And we will continue to invest in this sector in a meaningful way, considering the long-term results of our objectives.”
While financial losses at Reality Labs last year contributed to a slowdown in overall revenue, Zuckerberg claims his company is on the verge of a "fast turnaround" compared to last year.

"We cannot expect abnormal growth from everything." He said.
"There are a number of places that could grow very quickly or have some sort of future investment that we're interested in making."
