My mother's name was Vrunda and father's name was Krushnarai. He was a high ranking officer in merchant navy. As he used to be on the ship for most of time. My mother was everything for me and my brother. She was our father and friend. She was a teacher in a school.
I was born in Mangalore city of Karnataka state. My entire life was spent in Mumbai. I was loved by everyone for my blue eyes and pretty looks. My mother was worried and she used to perform a religious rite to vile away evil looks. Being a teacher, she did not love us blindly. I studied in Arya Vidya Mandir. My college was Ruparel and I had studied architecture a little bit. My mother taught us that we should mould ourselves. She did not accept that we should study because somebody is getting angry. She insisted that we should shape our lives.
She used to encourage me to participate in activities by which expose my talent and my personality. This freedom was enjoyed by us on one side while on the other side the discipline, which was in most of middle class families was also there. She taught us, knowingly as well as unknowingly that freedom does not mean unristreained behaviour. She used to tell her to travel as much as possible and take new experience. As on hobby,
I did a photo session while in college. An ad agency saw them/ Then I received offers from many big companies. I took part in Miss India competition. I was runner up. I was selected for miss world competition and I won the title.
Then I acted in many film's successfully. Even then I did not forget the teaching of my mother to honour social obligations. Eye donation movement activities approached me. They wanted me to act in ad to make donation popular. I told them that I will donate my eyes first and then only act in your film.
This was possible only because of my mother's teaching.
