People suffer from many sleep disorders. Some start walking in sleep, while some snore so much in sleep that the people around stay awake all night in trouble. Our brain gets energy from a good sleep. When we wake up, we wake up with new thinking, new energy and work to make the day better. Today we are going to tell you the story of a girl who slept at the age of 11, but when she woke up she was 21 years old. Yes, you heard it right, this girl slept for 9 years, that too continuously.
It was about 150 years ago today. A girl named Ellen Sadler, a resident of Britain, had a disease that surprised doctors all over the world. Ellen was born on 15 May 1859. They were 12 siblings. His family lived in a village named Turville. The village is situated between Oxford and Buckinghamshire.
When Ellen was young, her father had died. Mother had married another man. He used to raise them like his own children, on March 29, 1871, 11-year-old Ellen went to sleep with her brothers and sisters after having dinner like every night. But after that she did not wake up from sleep.
The next morning the family members got worried. He tried to wake them up by making noise. Not only this, water was also poured, it was stirred... but she did not wake up. Everyone thought she was dead but her pulse was running. She was breathing too. Then the family took him to the doctor.
The doctors were also surprised. He had never seen such a case before. No one could understand what disease he had. Ellen's story spread across Britain. She became famous as soon as she slept. People came from far and wide to see him. Even having a big family, the parents started taking money. People would come there and help them. In no time, he got so much money that his life started improving. But Ellen did not wake up.
Ellen's mother was taking care of her. She would give him things like porridge, milk etc., but after a year the girl's jaws got locked. But still his mother used to put food in through the crack made of broken teeth so that he would not die of hunger.
Ellen's mother died in the year 1880. He died due to heart attack. She was always worried about her daughter. After 5 months of mother's death, what happened which no one expected. After 9 years she woke up from sleep. Now she was 21 years old.
After waking up from sleep, his whole life changed. Neither did he get education in 9 years, nor was his brain developed. She used to talk like children. He didn't remember anything. But slowly she started recovering. She began to overcome the grief of her mother's departure. Then she got married. Later she gave birth to 6 children. He died in the year 1901. Today, even after 150 years, Ellen is famous worldwide as 'The sleeping girl of Turville'.
