With this achievement, Ramayan has overtaken the record of most viewed entertainment show on a single day from American fantasy drama 'Game of Thrones, ' which had a history of 19.3 million single-day viewership in its account.
4. An actor who played three characters in the epic
Yes ! you heard it right. There was an actor in the show who played three characters in this epic series. Actor Vijay Kavish played the role of Lord Shiva, Maharishi Valmiki, and Ravana's father-in-law Mayasura. He played Maharishi Valmiki in Uttar Ramayan. Apart from Vijay, Shyam Sundar Kalani also played the dual character of twin brothers Sugriv and Bali.
5. The extension on public demand
Initially, Ramayan was to be a show with 57 episodes of 45 minutes each. However, owing to the public market, the show was extended, thrice actually, eventually ending after 78 episodes. The man behind the success of the series, Ramanand Sagar, who was one of the most successful directors of his time, was the creator, writer, and director of the show. Moreover, consequent to the frequent public demands, the show was aired again in the 2000s on Star Plus and Star Utsav. Recently, after successfully concluding on DD National with record viewership, the show is currently being aired on Star Plus.
The Uttar Ramayan depicts the Ram Rajya after the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Laxman to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, the birth of Luv and Kush, and last days of Lord Rama, is not a part of the epic Ramayana written by Maharishi Valmiki. Poet Tulsidas added this book based on the conversations held between Kakbhusundi and Garud. Tulsidas was a famous Hindu Vaishnava poet who translated Maharishi Valmiki's Ramayana from Sanskrit to Awadhi as Ramcharitmanas. The Ramayan series is itself an adaptation of Maharishi Valmiki's Ramayana and Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas. The Ramayana consists of nearly 24,000 verses, and the Ramcharitmanas consists of 10,902 verses.
