The body sheds excess fat when it needs more calories to meet the demands you place on it on a particular day than the amount of calories you are consuming. It's so easy that you need to eat fewer calories and burn more to lose weight.
If you are looking for a weight loss program, there are various options available. They all spend a lot of time explaining what, what, how much, when, and in what combination. However, few people emphasize the importance of exercise for overall health and well-being, not just weight loss. Exercise is essential when trying to lose weight for several reasons:
First, when you start eating less, your metabolism slows down a bit. Exercise helps bring your metabolism back to an efficient level. Second, as mentioned earlier, exercise burns more calories, so you can lose weight faster and stay motivated. Third, exercise actually releases endorphins, mood-boosting chemicals working out doesn't have to mean spending hours at the gym or struggling with a strenuous workout. Exercise has to be something you enjoy in order for you to stick with it in the long run. Start increasing your overall activity level. Climb the stairs if possible. Park away from the mall doors when shopping. Take your dog or a friend for a walk in your favorite park or neighborhood. Take a dance or martial arts class.
As you become more active in general, exercising regularly becomes easier and more natural. After all, what you need to do to get regular and noticeable health benefits. You should get your heart rate up to a fat-burning level and keep it at that level for at least 20 minutes at least three times a week. However, if you don't want to hit the gym, there are other options. Videos and DVDs are now available for all types of exercises. That way, you can always change your routine and never get bored with what you're doing. Try a variety of aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, or whatever activity you like from the comfort of your own home.
Even if you have physical limitations that prevent you from exercising, you can still find ways to increase your activity level. Aqua aerobics is a great option for people with joint problems or limited range of motion because it reduces weight pressure on the body, but there is still resistance to getting out of the water and challenging the muscles. There are also classes and videos where you can train while sitting.
