Commonwealth today!!!.....Who is top on the table?....

Common wealth Games 2022 has begun with 72 nations competing for medals in 19 sports across 11 days. 

The 2022 Common wealth Games, Birmingham 2022 is an international multi-sport event to be held in Birmingham, England from 27 July 2022 to 7 August 2022. England is hosting the Games for the third time. 

History of CWG:

The Commonwealth Games bring nations together in a beautiful celebration of sport and human performance. But the Games have evolved dramatically since its beginnings in 1930.

Held every four years, with a hiatus during World War II, the Games have grown from featuring 11 countries and 400 athletes, to a global spectacle of 4,600 sports men and women from across 72 nations and territories.

Underpinned by the core values of humanity, equality and destiny, the Games aim to unite the Commonwealth family through a glorious festival of sport. Often referred to as the ‘Friendly Games’, the event is renowned for inspiring athletes to compete in the spirit of friendship and fair play.

The 2022 Games will be the first time West Midlands has played host to the event, following London 1934, and Manchester 2002. As preparations for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games take shape, the West Midlands become part of a lasting legacy. One that displays world-class teamwork, athleticism and friendship. 

2022 voices

Visiting 21 locations across the region, we listened carefully to the people of the West Midlands to understand what their hopes and expectations are of the Games.

Through school and community focus groups, roadshows, surveys and interviews, we’ve documented more than 1000 voices from across the region.

We discovered that local people love this region for its cultural diversity and look forward to showing the world how Birmingham has evolved from the workshop of the industrial revolution, to a global powerhouse of innovation and creativity. 

The Birmingham 2022 Organizing Committee is responsible for the planning and operational delivery of the Games. This includes the sport program, venue and competition management, ticket sales, all ceremonies and the Queen’s Baton Relay. 

Top of the table (2022)

                 At Birmingham 2022, Australia topped the Commonwealth Games with 92 medals, England second and New Zealand third with 74 medals and 25 respectively. 

Australia

          In total, Australian athletes won 92 medals at the end of the day. (36-Gold Medals, 26-Silver Medals, 30-Bronze Medals). Compared to other countries, Australian athletes are more efficient and precise in their performance and are winning medals. Australian athletes perform well in all sports. 

England

            England is ranked 2nd. At the end of Day 5, England won 74 medals. (27-Gold Medals, 30-Silver Medals, 17-Bronze Medals). 

New Zealand

           New Zealand is ranked 3rd. New Zealand won 25 medals at the end of the day. (13-Gold Medals, 7-Silver Medals, 5-Bronze Medals).
