I often ask clients to determine which comb binding machine will best suit their needs. With dozens of combination machines from manufacturers such as GBC/RIC, Achilles, America, Rene and Rhine O Tuff, it can be difficult to decide which machine fits your exact needs. However, once you determine which features seem important to you, it's easier to understand which device is best for you. Here's a quick rundown of some of the features to consider when looking for a comb binding machine:
Engine Design: One of the most important features to consider is the engine design. Most binding machines are made of plastic. This machine is suitable for small scale applications, but will not withstand heavy use. A metal comb binding machine is always a good bet.
Electricity vs. Guideline: When deciding on a comb binding machine, it is also important to decide between hand hammering and electric hammering. This decision will greatly affect the price of the binding machine you see. However, most electric machines are better suited for higher volume applications and can provide significant time savings over their manual counterparts. It should be noted that there are some small electric machines designed to facilitate the punching process and not increase production speed (GBC C110e is an example of a small-scale electric punch).
Punching ability: another important feature to consider when choosing a comb binding machine is the punching ability. Some small comb binders have the ability to punch less than 6 pages of 20lb paper. However, some modular electric connector shocks can shoot up to 50 20lb connector lists per stroke. Depending on the size of your book and the number of books you plan to bind, punching can be very important. However, it should be noted that for the longevity of your device, it is better not to use the full capacity described in the manual. Additionally, we find that users are faster when they hit a single injection, typically 15 to 20 pages for our highest volume users.
Detachable comb: The fourth factor to consider when choosing a comb is whether it has a detachable comb. The splicing machine with removable clamps allows the user to remove all the holes in the machine. By removing the die, the machine can be used to bind documents less than 11″ in length. If you intend to bind documents shorter or longer than 11 inches, a removable die is a must.
Rand: When choosing a comb binding machine, it is also important to consider the manufacturer. GBC /RIC is the biggest name in the binding machine industry and manufactures excellent binding machines. However, the Achilles, America, Reno and Rhine O Tuff binding machines are also excellent. Although other brands can be considered, this name is the best in the business and the quality is excellent.
Warranty: The last factor to consider when choosing a binding comb machine is its warranty. Implied warranties vary. However, if something goes wrong with your connector, you should have warranty protection. This is especially true for manual combing machines, which are more expensive to replace.
