Chennai: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in Chennai today (July 30) petrol was sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24.
The public sector oil companies fix the domestic prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis as per the international market conditions. In Tamil Nadu, on November 3, 2021, one liter of petrol was sold at Rs 110.85 and diesel at Rs 102.59. This was the highest selling price of petrol and diesel.
After the assembly elections in five states, including UP, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged. As the elections in these states ended, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, crude oil prices rose in the international market.
In Chennai till May 21, petrol prices remained unchanged at Rs 110.85 and diesel at Rs 100.94. In this case, on May 21, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a sudden announcement. He announced that the central government will reduce the excise duty on petrol by Rs 9 per liter and the excise duty on diesel by Rs 7.50 per liter.
Subsequently, in Chennai (May 22), petrol was sold at Rs.8.22 paise to Rs.102.63 and diesel was sold by Rs.6.70 paise to Rs.94.24. Today (July 30th) for the 70th day, petrol is selling at Rs.102.63 and diesel at Rs.94.24 without any change.
