Capital of India (Delhi) has always been in headlines for all the wrong reasons. From the last 1-2Months, its been in news for the Alerting Pollution levels. Every year, the pollution in Delhi becomes the major headlines of all the media. Now, its been ranked the most polluted city in the world as the pollution levels are 20 times more than what WHO specified as safe levels.
The Pollution is caused by many factors while the major ones are emission from vehicles, construction dust, Industry and power generation. Its further fueled by the crop burn via practice known as 'stubble burning'. Many efforts are made to curb on this practice but the cost to make those efforts possible is way more than just simply razing the crops. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal stated that the city has been turning into Gas chamber and blames the Stubble burning, further he signed out of Punjab and Haryana Govt. as farmers of those areas ignore the ban implemented by the Govt. which ultimately affecting the Delhi Pollution. The cafes at the city are also grow at a good rate which means increase use of energy and air conditioner which is also a factor in increased Air Pollution level.
During the first 2 weeks of November, the levels of pollution were so hazardous as the AQI level reached 999, i know completely unimaginable but u read it right, it was 999 in which breathing is equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes a day.
However, Govt. tried their level best to curb on the levels of pollution by implementing the Odd-Even scheme and at the same time National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered ban on construction work which later on extended till 25th Nov 2019.
With increasing economic development comes many disadvantages of the same as more Indians are coming to smoke shrouded cities which means more people who need housing, more vehicles with few pollution controls and more people making fires to make food and keep warm. Also, the increasing pollution levels meand more people spend time indoors, which increases energy requirement for light and A/c which only contributes to a worse situation.
