Harsh Vardhan Patwardhan joined his father’s transport business soon after finishing his Master's in operation from the University of Nottingham in 2013, he realized that it was a well-established organization, and he wasn't demanded there.
He also turned his attention to the traditional hand-wrought Kolhapur sandals and explored the possibility of manufacturing them. While in the UK, the Kolhapur sandals he'd worn had entered a lot of respect and he'd tasted a business occasion.
After doing a lot of exploration on the leather assiduity and relating soft leather to make Kolhapur sandals and the thermoplastic polyurethane( TPU) material for making soles, Harshwardhan started Chap pal in 2014 at age of 24 with about Rs 5 lakh working with the many artisans in Kolhapur.
Moment, Chap pal is a profitable brand with a periodic development of Rs2.2 crore with four exclusive stores in Pune and a presence in another 20 retail mates each in Maharashtra.
Flashing Black the family’s humble roots when they used to live in a crawl until he was about 10 times old, Harshwardhan chose to make the brand without entering any financial help from his rich patter
Indeed the Rs 5 lakh He took from my father wasn't espoused in one shot. He took them in small quantities. He bought the first set of sandals with Rs,000 from Kolhapur and vended it to my musketeers and family members.
He was careful about spending every single rupee. He used to take the early morning machine to reach Kolhapur from Pune, which used to take about five to six hours.
My computation also as if He took my auto He would have to fill up petrol for a many thousand rupees. He allowed
I would rather use the plutocrat to buy many redundant dryads of Kolhapur sandals.
I used to buy leather from Mumbai and walk down to about 1 km down- to catch the machine back to Pune with about 50 kg of leather and save the g harry chow.
Harshwardhan shares his trip of erecting the Chap pal brand from starting with Kolhapur sandals to now experimenting with idlers, moccasins, and mules.
He has always believed in doing effects He enjoys and not getting Stone commodities He dislikes. Well, He guess life had the same plans for me too. Noway a 9- 5 person and hailing from a business family, it was ineluctable that He would, too, have the business gene in me.
So, that’s what He did. He followed my dreams, started my adventure, and galumphed days and nights, and the moments He can proudly look back and say it has been a fantastic trip.
He was born to a middle-class family when my father had just started working in the family transport business. Soon it began to grow exponentially, and our lives changed.
A fabulous nonage after that in love, fun, and horselaugh tutored me to enjoy life but stay predicated contemporaneously.
He started working in my father’s business in 2013 after completing my Masters's degree in the UK. I wasn’t enjoying it a bit the entire time He worked there and began to contemplate starting commodity singly.
Nurturing the idea of starting up, He was looking ahead to do commodity in a small way that would break any problem faced by the country. And also, suddenly, the Kolhapur crossed my mind.
He always loved wearing Kolhapur and would travel the world wearing them. But one day, while teaming it up with a leather jacket, He noticed commodity news. Both were made of leather, but while the jacket was soft, the Kolhapur was hard.
He was soon curious about tracing the reason behind the difference and started studying leather. He indeed visited many tanneries in Kanpur and Chennai and got Kolhapur made in soft leather and bright tinges like red, neon green, orange, and so on. And that’s when it struck me! How about making Kolhapur global?
He says,
I started the business in 2014. I worked with many crafters in Kolhapur and would buy the sandals from them and vesendhem to my musketeers and family members in Pune.
Back also, I wondered what to name the business and was complexed over at least a hundred names I made a list of. And no, Chap pal was indeed not one of them.
One day it struck me that nearly all the western footwear types have ‘ ers ’ at the end of their name, like idlers, slippers, etc.
As I was trying to Westernize Kolhapur per se, I allowed
it would be a great idea to name my brand Chap pal - the ‘ chap ’ from Chap pals and add ‘ ers ’ to it! And that’s how Chap pals made its first footmark, literally.
I used to shoot the prints of the products on WhatsApp to all the groups I was part of and also set up a Facebook runner and posted images of the sandals.
I indeed set up booths on flea requests in different places and ended my products. In 2016, I opened my first store in Pune. Now, we've four stores, where you can pick up ready- to- wear footwear and also get customized bones
.
Moment, we're a 12- member platoon of married romanticists and ten tradesmen to support us. Our hard work has paid out too. The first time, our development was Rs 10 lakh, which grew steadily and touched Rs2.2 crore during FY 2021- 22.
Life has changed from what I was to what I've come. I was keen to take minimum fiscal help from my family for my adventure; therefore, the original days were redoubtable.
Challenges were right there from the morning sourcing raw accoutraccoutermentsg the product, dealing it at reasonable prices, and chancing the right blend of a suchlike- inclined platoon.
But luckily, I brazened them all. Back also, I would save on bus- fares, walk to my suppliers, and trip by alternate- class-AC trains rather than breakouts. Despite tasting success and being suitable to go all the comforts, I still feel the fire burning inside me.
From a boy whose life revolved around an abecedarian academy called SPM English School, badminton classes, a couple of instructions, and the obligatory family dine-out on Sunday, I've grown into a wedded man moment. with my 8- month pregnant woman
, I'm still the happy soul who doesn’t believe in balance in life and prefers doing whatever he finds to be right at any point in time.
I still love football and traveling to new places and I forcefully believe that if you’re not having fun at work, it’s time to quit it.
To the new and fresh entrepreneurs, I would like to say, ‘ Believing in yourself and your capability to make ends meet is a crucial skill. Indeed if you’re earning downward now, you should be suitable to survive and thrive in that terrain. That’s where dreams are erected.
Stay harmonious and keep doing what your heart tells you to. It knows where you want to go and attendants you toward the right effects. Don’t suppose about the plutocrat. It'll always be low for the first many times. Focus on erecting a good business. plutocrat will come.
