Britain(UK) is one of the economic giants of the world and one of the dreamed lands for immigration seekers. In the last few years, they had been in a hard line for immigrants and created lower scaled immigration scopes for interested people. It lost immigration seekers' interest to a certain extent as their selection process was complicated. Recently it's newly formed government expressed their positive attitude towards welcoming immigrants, particularly skilled and talented people from around the world.
Prime Minister Mr. Boris Johnson declared that his administration would work for attracting skilled immigrants around the world. It was one of his priorities in his first speech while addressing the parliament after forming the cabinet with a landslide victory in the 2019 election. He committed tremendous changes, including the migration policy of the country. He instantly instructed the Advisory Committee of Immigration to review their existing policy coping with the established procedures in countries like Canada, Australia. His statement regarding this announcement will ignite the immigration seekers with a new spirit.
Boris said, "We assure you that we shall continue to attract the best and brightest talent from around the world. No one believes more strongly than me the benefits of immigration to our country. But I'm clear that our immigration system must change for years. Politicians have promised the public an Australian Style points-based system, and today I will deliver on those promises. I will ask the Advisory Committee of Immigration to conduct a review of the system as the first step in the radical rewriting system. I'm convinced that we can produce a system that the British public can have confidence in."
Based on the announcement, at the beginning of this year 2020, they unveiled the points-based UK immigration system. They appointed a new director-general for the UK Visa and Immigration Department. Though there are numerous criticisms regarding the new points-based policy as it will keep less room for lower-skilled persons from around the world, the authority has a plan to implement the new system from January 2021. Some experts have already expressed their concern that this system may create skill shortages in the UK. However, the positive side of the new system is that it will help mid-level professionals to be employed and immigrated to the United Kingdom. It will be comparatively more comfortable for them to get UK Visa and Work Permit if they can arrange a skill related Job Offer from any of the employers in the UK.
Home Secretary, Priti Patel unveiled the new system on 19th February 2020 and expected that the bill would come into effect from January 2021. Home Secretary also mentioned that in this system, an immigration candidate would require to score a minimum of 70 points based on several categories. She added that this effective immigration system had been designed to create a 'high wage, high skill, high productivity economy in the UK.' It excludes temporary or general work Visa options for low-skilled immigrants. It will prevent their businesses from solely depending on cheap foreign labor to meet employment shortages.
