An abscess on the brain, known as an intracranial tumor, is a rare tissue in which cells grow and multiply uncontrollably, seemingly uncontrolled by processes that control normal cells. More than 150 brain tumors have been recorded, but the two major groups of brain tumors are called primary and metastatic.
Primary brain tumors include tumors from the brain tissue or the vicinity of the brain. Basic plants are classified as glial (composed of glial cells) or non-glial (built on or in the structures of the brain, including nerves, blood vessels and glands) and benig or malignant.
Abscesses in the Metastatic brain include tumors that grow elsewhere in the body (such as the breast or lungs) and then move to the brain, usually through the bloodstream. Metastatic plants are considered cancerous and dangerous.
Metastatic brain tumors affect about one in four cancer patients, or an estimated 150,000 people a year. Up to 40 percent of people with lung cancer will have metastatic brain tumors. In the past, the result for patients diagnosed with these plants was extreme poverty, with normal living standards for just a few weeks. Sophisticated diagnostic tools, in addition to new surgical techniques and radiation, help survival rates to grow into age; and allow for improved quality of life for patients following follow-up.
Types of Benign Brain Tumors
• Fine, slow-growing tumor chordomas are most common in people in their 50s and 60s. Their most common areas are the skull base and the lower part of the spine. Although these plants are dangerous, they can invade nearby bone marrow and compress nearby nerve tissue. These are rare plants, which account for only 0.2 percent of all major brain tumors.
• Craniopharyngiomas are usually harmless, but the abscesses are difficult to remove due to their location near the critical structures deep in the brain. They usually come from the pituitary gland (the building that regulates many hormones in the body), so almost all patients will need alternative therapies instead of hormones.
• Gangliocytomas, gangliomas and anaplastic ganglioglioma are rare tumors involving very different neoplastic nerve cells, found mainly in young people.
• Glomus jugulare plants are generally harmless and are usually found just below the skull base, above the jugular vein. They are the most common type of glomus plant. However, glomus tumors, in general, contribute to only 0.6 percent of neoplasms of the head and neck.
• Meningiomas are the most common malignant tumors within the cranial, comprising 10 to 15 percent of all brain neoplasms, although a very small percentage are malignant. These plants come from the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.
• Pineocytomas are usually malignant lesions from pineal glands, which occur mainly in adults. They are often well described, uncomplicated, homogeneous and slow growing.
• Pituitary adenomas are the most common internal cranial tumors after gliomas, meningiomas and schwannoma. Most pituitary adenomas are malignant and grow slowly. Even malignant pituitary gland rarely spreads to other parts of the body. Adenomas are a very common disease that affects the pituitary. It most commonly affects people in their 30's or 40's, although it is also common in children. Most of these tumors can be successfully treated.
• Schwannomas develop in brain cells that are abnormal in adults. They go hand in hand with nerve endings, which are made up of cells that normally provide "electrical implants" for nerve cells. Schwannomas usually remove the remaining part of the normal nerve instead of attacking it. Acoustic neuromas are the most common schwannoma, from the eighth cranial nerve, or vestibular cochlear nerve, that travels from the brain to the ear. Although these plants are dangerous, they can cause serious problems and even death if they grow up and put pressure on the arteries and eventually the brain. Some areas include the spine and, rarely, near the nerves to the legs
