Biotechnology And What Are The Major Areas Of Biotechnology..?

Biotechnology is not a new development in the field of science. It has been used for years, but it has not been widely described as biotechnology. In its simplest form, biotechnology means using living organisms or their products to improve or improve human health or the environment, or to run a process.

Biotechnology itself is a combination of biology and other sciences to create new, innovative products in the agricultural sector, industrial sector and environmental industries. Products include medications, vaccines, plant growth hormones and dietary supplements.

There are nine major areas of this technology and their application in the field of biotechnology.

These nine major areas are bio process, monoclonal antibodies, cell culture, regenerative DNA technology, cloning, protein engineering, biosensors, nanobiotechnology and microarrays.

According to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, “Biotechnology is any technology that uses biological systems, organisms, or derivatives, to make or modify products or processes for specific uses”. The OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) defines biotechnology as “... the application of scientific and engineering principles to the processing of material by biological agents”. Thus, “Biotechnology” basically means using biology as the basis for technology used in research and product development in areas such as agriculture, food science, and medicine.

 

Science and Technology Education Standards define Biotechnology as the means by which people use biological concepts to produce products and provide services. This is especially true when we look at the biotechnology phase where directed biological deceptions are used in the production of natural products such as beer, dairy products, food etc.

Biotechnology had already been developed long before the term itself was coined, though it is still very basic. For example, one had already learned how to ferment fruit juices to make alcoholic beverages during about 6000 BC. However, it was considered to be the masterpiece of the era. Biotechnology became a real science only two decades ago when it was discovered that genes contain information that would aid in the synthesis of certain proteins. This was in the 1970s, when new advances in the field of molecular biology made it possible for scientists to easily transfer DNA - the building blocks of chemicals that define biological features - among the most closely related living things.

Then during the eighties and early nineties, it was confirmed that mutations or mutations in plants and animals were possible. The introduction of “flexible” animals and plants also led to increased disease resistance and increased productivity, etc. Modern biotechnology is also now commonly associated with the use of genetically modified organisms such as E. coli or yeast in production of substances such as insulin or antibiotics. A new biotechnology system similar to herbal medicine has also been developed

Cell culture simply means the growth of cells without the organism. There are 3 areas in this study, which include plant cell culture, insect cell culture and mammal cell culture. DNA Recombinant technology, in the literal sense of the word, means to reassemble two fragments of DNA into two separate types. These are used to produce new drugs and vaccines, to slow down the digestive process, to control bacterial infections and to prevent inflammation, to name a few.

Biosensors are a combination of biology and the development of microelectronics. Biosensors find devices that rely on cell specifications and molecules to identify and measure objects at extremely low levels, which is why they are widely used to measure healthy food, safety and nutrition of teens, explosive detection, toxicity, and bio-warfare. Agent, detect and diagnose contamination, and provide emergency bedside measurements of essential blood components.
