Backbiting – A Deadly Poison for Both Men and Women

“Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would detest it!”
[Qur’an, Surah Al-Hujurat: Ayah 12]

Backbiting is not just a slip of the tongue — it is a grave sin in the eyes of Allah. Whether committed by a man or a woman, it invites the anger and displeasure of the Almighty.

In today’s society, it has sadly become common for many women to turn the flaws of others into topics of casual conversation, finding joy in discussing the private matters of others. Likewise, many men fuel their gatherings by discussing and mocking those who are absent, exposing their weaknesses to gain attention or laughter.

But the truth is:
Backbiting is a fire that burns away your good deeds.
It is a habit that deepens the darkness of your grave.

Whether it's criticizing a spouse behind their back, complaining about in-laws, or mocking a colleague’s character at the office — remember this:
The sweetness of such speech opens the door to destruction in the Hereafter.

And the tragedy is even greater today.
Social media, WhatsApp groups, and gatherings have made backbiting so normal that it’s almost considered a part of everyday talk.
Both men and women are drowning in this curse — as if it were no longer a sin.

O woman! O man!
Pause and reflect…
If Allah were to expose your faults to the world, where would you hide?
If something is not acceptable for you, how can it be acceptable when done to someone else?

So today, guard your tongue,
purify your heart,
and make your gatherings a safe haven for others’ honor — not a graveyard for it.

Because on the Day when all veils are lifted,
every word will be accounted for…
and the tongue may become your greatest enemy.

Choose not to backbite.
Instead, make a habit of prayers, reformation, and silence,
so that your tongue may not testify against you on the Day of Judgment.

🕊️ Backbiting destroys both this life and the next. Let your words heal, not harm.
