A recent randomized clinical trial has shown that receiving the fourth dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA vaccines approximately seven months after the third dose could safely boost the immune response. The study is ongoing and will also evaluate the immune response 84 days after the fourth dose to assess its effectiveness in the longer term. The results could help inform public policy decisions about whether the whole population or specific vulnerable groups should receive a fourth dose.
