A puppet is an object that is controlled or manipulated by a person known as a puppeteer, and commonly resembles a person, animal, or mythical character. The torso, head, limbs, and sometimes the mouth and eyes of the puppet are moved by the puppeteer using motions of their hands, arms, or control tools like rods or strings. Often, the puppeteer will talk in the puppet's character's voice, coordinating the mouth motions with the spoken words. In storytelling, the puppeteer's actions, gestures, and spoken lines are usually performed with the puppet. Puppetry is a very old style of theater that originated in Ancient Greece in the fifth century BC. There are numerous varieties.
