Babies are born with cognitive skills that allow them to recognize and respond to their caregivers, e.g., parents and siblings. The duty of adults is to give them love, care, and independence. Look to Piaget's "Sensorimotor period," which spans between 18-24 months. The limits of what sensorimotor children can do have been proven in countless experiments since Piaget first documented them. However, recent research has identified strengths and abilities not previously noted that adults might not have considered. Playing games with your baby is a great way to diversify the kinds of interactions you and your baby share, for games to play throughout the first 3 years that will support cognition. Between the ages of 2 and 3, a child achieves developmental milestones and transforms from a baby or toddler to a preschooler!
