What Are Attunements? Energy Healing Blog 30 Aug, 2016 Posted By: Craig MacLennan An attunement works on the understanding that everything is energy, including youself. There are certain types of energies that are more beneficial for certain things such as energy ranges that are best for abundance, clearing chakras, reducing stress etc. We already have these energies as part of our system, but may not be fully aware of or be skilled enough to access certain specific ranges with the aim of bringing about a certain result. What Are Attunements? An attunement is a process that allows you to remember, and access (even in the future) a range of energies by temporarily increasing the desired energy ranges within you that are already a part of your system. It does this so you can remember it again and then more easily activate it in the future as you have been reminded of their frequencies. Many such healing practitioners speak about bringing in or transferring the power from one person to another. This is the typical language used to explain a perception or way such healing mechanisms work or act. However, as we are all governed by the same, nothing is necessarily moving or being transferred as such. It is the language being used to explain the provider who is setting the ranges to be remembered. Attunements forms an integral part of many different types of healing practices and it is there to assist you in remembering and accessing different types of energies. It has the potential benefit of significantly accelerating your spiritual development and reducing your time in trying to access it yourself. Saying this, it is the tool, which should not be solely relied upon in any spiritual work. This is because the person who creates it is typically only accessing the dimension he is able to access. It may not be all the power available for that specific need, so always use an attunement as a starting point. What is ‘energy exchange’, and why is it important? In one of the versions of the Reiki story it is said that Mikao Usui treated people for free – “Usui decides to treat the beggars in the slums of Kyoto and help them lead a better life. He spent 7 years treating people with illnesses and found that old faces kept coming back. He asked why they are not being able to start a new life. He was told by them that working was troublesome and begging was easier. Usui realized there was something missing in his treatment as he thought he should teach his patients gratitude and then he started working on Reiki principles.” With the lesson being that the practitioners should not give their time and efforts away without some form of energy exchange. In today’s world, money is the most convenient way of making this exchange, but it can be anything. The concept of exchange has its roots in three Japanese concepts: giri, okaeshi. Giri means obligation or indebtedness, and it is a big deal in Japanese culture. Such indebtedness can weigh heavily on the mind, and can even carry a degree of shame. Okaeshi means ‘a gift in return’, and it is the way people free themselves from obligation. Okaeshi can be money, or another service, or any kind of assistance. When it is given, the receiver becomes free from indebtedness, and truly owns the gift and there is no feeling of obligation or guilt. If you provide someone with a reiki healing session and ask for nothing in return, they will feel unsure about how they are supposed to feel. They will feel unsure next time they do something that might jeopardise the healing. However, when they have paid back for their gift (the energy exchange), they are free to own the healing, to make it part of their life, and eventually to realise that they are the master of their own healing.
