On Monday, 29 November karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said
▪ 'We have instructed adherence to strict precautions at schools and colleges, but not to close them. There is no proposal to impose the lockdown'.
▪Denying any possible lockdown amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in some educational institutions and the detection of the new strain Omicron, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on 29th of November made it clear that there was no proposal to impose lockdown in the state.
▪Speaking to reporters, the Karnataka CM urged the people not to panic about Omicron, and asked them to strictly follow Covid-19 guidelines. He said those arriving from the countries where Omicron variant was found are being screened at the airports and that they would be allowed into the cities only if they test negative.
▪Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said that samples of one of the two passengers who arrived at the Bengaluru airport from South Africa had tested positive for novel coronavirus which is "a little different from the Delta variant."
▪While speaking to reporters, he said, "One is relatively better and the other, we are finding it a little different from Delta variant. We have sent the sample to the Centre's lab. We are waiting for final inference."
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraja S Bommai on Thursday called on Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and discussed about the new COVID-19 variant "Omicron", on the day it was announced that two cases of the variant have been detected in the southern state.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Bommai noted that he also discussed administering booster dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 to health workers.
He said the health minister told him that the Centre is watching the current developments and a decision on administering COVID-19 booster dose to health workers will be taken after discussion with expert committees.
The Karnataka Chief Minister said that he discussed two issues. One was about controlling the spread of COVID-19 and the other was about the new variant.
The Union government on Thursday said two cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in Karnataka and asked people not to panic but follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated without delay.
Both the patients are men aged 66 years and 46 years with mild symptoms. Severe symptoms have not been noted, a central government official said during a press conference.
The government stated that 373 cases of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected in 29 nations so far and India was monitoring the situation.
Karnataka Chief Minister on 3 December told that he will hold a meeting with his colleagues and health experts on how to deal with the Omicron threat. With two Omicron cases, Karnataka is the first state to find this coronavirus variant of concern.
In refrence to the above context the government is not able to decide wether to impose a lock down or not. Karnataka Cheif Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that he will not impose any lock down rather they are going to increase the rate of vaccination dose which been given to people and added that strict precautions are to be followed by everyone.
But if the new Omicron variant increases they might go for a lock down but still the chances of imposing a lockdown is very low asper the given information. For now the current situation is under control and if it is maintained properly we might avoid the imposition of a lockdown.
