What is Quordle?
Quordle is like Wordle but with a new spin, touted as 'Wordle on Steroids'. Instead of guessing one five-letter word that you do on Wordle, Quordle requires you to guess four five-letter words in succession.
The game offers you nine guesses to guess all the words. Each guess, if correct, appears in all four fields. A tough ask, Quordle is sending gamers into a tizzy.
The game is available free of cost at quordle.com. You get one chance daily to solve the four five-letter word grid. However, unlike Wordle, Quordle allows unlimited practice puzzles to hone your skills.
How to play Quordle?
The rules of the game are similar to that of Wordle. You get nine attempts of entering five-letter words. The correct alphabets get flagged off in all the words, where applicable. The blank lights up in green if the letter is in the right spot, like Wordle. Alternatively, if the letter is correct but in the wrong place, it is highlighted yellow. Letters highlighted in 'gray' do not appear in the grid at all.
Experts believe that the right strategy to win the game is to guess all four words simultaneously. It is challenging yet effective. You can start strong with a word that uses most of the alphabet to eliminate the not useful ones. Then, as the grid fills up with the correct letters, you might get the hint as to the right word.
Quordle v/s Wordle
Quordle is nothing but a Wordle made four times more challenging. A group of Wordle fans put a spin on the original game, and Quordle was born. Officially, Quordle is not affiliated with Wordle, nor do the sites have any link.
Another distinct advantage of Quordle over Wordle is the unlimited game offering. For gaming enthusiasts, the practice games on Quordle give them more opportunities to try their luck. It, thus, makes the game addictive. Furthermore, you get nine guesses in Quordle while Wordle gives you six.
Though Quordle is becoming popular, it has a long way to go before it can match Wordle's popularity.
Quordle may have been inspired by the viral puzzle that continues to fill Twitter feeds with yellow and green squares, but it’s no one-trick pony.
Unlike its predecessor, which is played by millions of people daily, Quordle is a spin-off for those who want to challenge their linguistic skills at another level.
On the Quordle website, creator Freddie Meyer said engineer David Mah put together the first prototype of the game “in a moment of evil and genius”.
Meyer said: “It was truly horrific code (it even had two keyboards) but I knew that I had to continue the madness. With hindsight, he really baited me into finishing his monstrous creation.”
He also credits another person named Guilherme S Tows with Quordle’s creation.
Meyer says the game now has more than 500,000 players daily and has had more than a million total players.
According to Meyer, he hasno plans to "monetise Quordle”.
He said: “I just enjoy watching everyone enjoy this insane game.”
