Airbus Extends Partnership for how to Enhance Satellite IoT Technology

Swiss satellite IoT operator Astrocast has announced extending its partnership with Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus). The collaboration seeks to bolster the capabilities of satellite  Internet of Things (SatIoT) technology, allowing Astrocast to further increase its network capacity, according to the official release.

Astrocast stated that its partnership with Airbus since 2017 has been vital for the progress of Astrocast's communication protocol and modem software stack. The improvements have greatly influenced the development of Astrocast's SatIoT technology, which has been well-received for its reliability and quality following its launch in 2022.

With the partnership extension, Airbus will continue to provide extensive support to Astrocast, focusing on enhancing both Bandwidth and Quality of Service. This collaboration is expected to further optimize data transmission capacity, efficiency, latency, and security, allowing customers to enhance their operational efficiency according to their specific needs.

Astrocast stated that its SatIoT connectivity has already benefitted various organizations, including the EU's CiRROCCO and XGain initiatives, as well as Avirtech, Digitanimal, and ArrowSpot, among others. Through the extended partnership with Airbus, Astrocast aims to build upon their shared technological successes and maintain their position as a go-to satellite IoT operator.

Airbus Defence and Space expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "Through this partnership extension, Airbus reaffirms its commitment to Astrocast's technology roadmap and its leadership in the SatIoT space. This collaboration also lays the important foundation for potential convergences with the future 5G NTN IoT communications standards that are currently in discussion for LEO constellations."

With a shared vision for the future of IoT, Airbus and Astrocast are set to revolutionize the way IoT data is transmitted and utilized on a global scale.

With Astrocast's total supervision over the constellation, the company can enhance the service and increase the satellite lifetime with maximum propellant usage optimisation.

The effective optimisation of Astrocast's satellite constellation indicates the company's satellite technology maturity, including fabrication, operation, and constellation design and maintenance.

The move follows the launch of Astrocast's satellite IoT service in February this year. It offers systems integrators and end users access to a bidirectional satellite IoT service and enables organisations to manage global IoT connectivity in remote locations of the world.

Use cases include the remote management of irrigation systems, tracking shipping containers, and controlling water management systems. The Astrocast network enables companies to monitor, track, and communicate with remote assets from anywhere in the world.
