What is Agnipath Scheme?

Agni path scheme was introduced by the government of India on 14th June 2022. And this scheme will be implemented from September 2022. This scheme is a pan India merit based recruitment scheme for recruiting Indian armed force. This scheme provides an opportunity for youth to serve for youth to serve in Indian armies. The Aspirants who will be recruited under the Agni path scheme will be called asĀ Agni-veers(fire-worriers). Agni veers will be enrolled for a service duration of 4 years, and in these 4 years training period is also included. The Agni veers will be given a good pay package and retirement package after a service of 4 years. Agni veers will be given Rs. 30,000-45,000 per month. Agni veers will be recruited in the age limit of 17.5 year to 21 year age gap. After the 4 years of service, only 25 percentage of the Agni veers will be retained in the army, based on their willingness and medical fitness. Further, these 25 percentage of Agni veers will be served in Indian army for another 15 years. The remaining 75 percentage of Agni veers will be retired and given with package of Rs 11-12 lakhs. This 11-12 lakh amount is like a pension which is funded by their monthly contribution that is employee provident fund (this is some percentage of amount deducted from the employee monthly salary.) These 75 percentage of Agni veers will also give with skill certificate for help in their second career. Agni veers who achieve martyrdom will be given full payment of unnerved service years.

Agni path scheme is criticized by the all sections of society. This scheme was introduced without the public consultation. Public is not ready to accept this scheme. Protest of public is going on. On 16th June 2022 violent protest were done in several states of India by the aspirants and the public. They damaged public property. By 17th June 2022, 12 trains were fired and movement of 300 trains affected. 214 trains cancelled, 11 trains were diverted, and 90 trains were terminated short of their destination. And a plea is also filed in the supreme court against the scheme.

Prior to this scheme, soldiers were recruited into the armed forces on a 15 plus year. From 2020 no recruitment in the armed forces was done for a 3 years due to COVID-19 pandemic in India. Recruitment in the Indian armed forces under Central government(BJP) in the year 2015- 2016 is 71,804 in 2016- 2017 is 52447 in 2017- 2018 is 50026 in 2018- 2019 is 53431 and in 2019- 2020 is 80572 and after 2019- 2020 there were no recruitment in the Indian armed forces.

Agni path scheme will be implemented from September 2022. Candidates will be recruited as per this scheme as of now. The Government of India announced that they will recruit 46000 Agni veers in this year (2022) and about 30000 in the incoming year. But as the protest is going on by the public against the scheme. So let's see, will this scheme implemented or not?
