Public speaking is what most people try to avoid and fear. Many times in my life, I find myself giving lectures, so I need to learn the best way to do it. In this article, I will write about what I have learned from reading several books on public speaking and the suggestions that have helped me to deliver these speeches successfully.
Most people are very anxious before and during their presentation or speech. It has a negative effect on our breathing and makes us choke. When you are nervous, it is good to remember to breathe regularly when speaking. In my opinion, you should try to breathe every six to eight words. Nerves suppress our muscles and make your chest feel really tight. This is a natural reaction, and it is advisable to take a few deep breaths before you start your conversation to relax.
When you start your speech, make sure you have a focal point in the room to inspire you. It could be a picture behind the room or in a window. Sometimes you get distracted and forget what you want to say. This focal point will help get you back on track.
When I make a public speech, I try not to see people in the eyes of the audience because it can stop me. I want them to think that I am, because if they think I am not capable, it is a sign to the nerves. What I do is it is not their eyes that see clearly the area on their forehead, but it has the effect that I am still looking at them.
Although I planned what I was going to say, I did not plan it by word of mouth. Instead, I write keywords or keywords on paper, which I keep in my pocket if I need to look at it. It ensures that I do not forget what I want to say and allows me to make a statement. Even speech can no longer be robotic and boring, as I remember word for word.
I always want to start a public speech with a little joke, which then acts as an icebreaker. I remember a speech I made a few years ago, it was my last day at the company I worked for. The people in the office made some presents for me. Then I had to say some thanks to him. I knew several weeks ago that I had to make this speech, and I have to say it was very stressful for me.
The speech lasts only ten minutes and is in front of about fifty people. I started out like that, I want to thank everyone who put it in the collection and for those who don’t, I will meet you later. It was a very pathetic joke, but some people laughed. It gave me a little extra confidence and helped me relax.
I advise people to speak a little slower than usual when they need to make a public speech. It has helped me a lot over the years.
I hope this article helps you to provide quality public speaking
