Advice On How To Deliver A Successful Public Speech

Public speaking is something that many people try to avoid and even fear. At some point in my life, I found myself having to give a talk so I had to learn the best way to do this. In this article, I write about what I have learned from reading so many books about public speaking, tips that have helped me to deliver these talks successfully.

Most people are very nervous before and during their presentation or talk. This can have a detrimental effect on our breathing and can leave us short of breath. If you feel nervous it is a good idea to remember to take a deep breath every time you speak. In my opinion you should look at breathing every six to eight words. Feelings will make our muscles tense and can make your chest feel really strong. This is a natural reaction and it is a good idea to take a deep breath before starting your talk to help you relax.

When you start your talk, I will make sure you have a focus area in the room, which can work to give you inspiration. This can be a picture in the back of a room or a window. Sometimes you may lose your focus and forget what you want to say. This focus area can help you get back on track.

I try not to look at people in the audience when I give a public talk, because that would put me off. I want them to think that I do, as it can be a sign of emotion when they think I can't. What I usually do is look at the area on their forehead which is obviously not the eyes but the effect that I am still looking at them etc.

Although I plan what I will say, I do not plan it literally. Instead I write keywords or keywords on a piece of paper that I keep in my pocket in case I need to check them out. This ensures that I do not forget what I want to say and allows me to advertise. Speech and hopefully now will not sound like a robot and as boring as it would have been if I had memorized it word for word.

I always like to start a public talk with a short joke, which can be an ice breaker. I remember a talk I gave a few years ago, it was my last day at the company I worked for. The people in the office were collecting and buying me gifts to leave. Then I said a few words of thanks to them. I knew weeks before I was going to have to give this talk, and I would say that it was stressful.

The talk itself will take about ten minutes and will be in front of about fifty people. This is how I started the speech, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the collection, and anyone who did not, I will see you later. This is a sad joke but a few people laughed. This gave me more confidence and helped me to relax.

I also advise people to speak less than they usually do when they have to deliver a public talk. This has really helped me over the years.

I hope this article helps you to deliver a high-quality public talk.
