Acer makes laptops for normal people who love bargains. For the most part, anyway. The Swift 7 line is where it connects. Previous models have given us some of the thinnest and lightest laptops in the world, with bizarre warnings such as trackpads that don’t click. After this latest version, the Acer Swift 7 2019/2020 seems quite normal. Its trackpad features an 8th-generation Intel processor, is still incredibly small and has some of the narrowest screen edges you can find on any laptop. However, you should probably only consider ultralight and the choice of shaving thicknesses to the nearest millimeter. Because it’s otherwise expensive, not extremely powerful and their keyboard is not as satisfying to type as some Acer laptops, which cost a third of the price. conception 318 x 192 x 9.95 mm; 0.89kgs The design of the Acer Swift 7 includes four essential elements: its low weight, the finesse that blocks MacBooks, tiny display borders and the case material itself. The latter allows the Swift 7 to be light and light. The laptop uses a magnesium alloy rather than aluminum, the default choice for a high-end laptop. Magnesium is lighter and stronger at the same thickness. That’s why you see it in several extremely thin laptops. The fact that the Swift 7 is not as metallic as aluminum is one of the reasons why magnesium alloy is not used more often. It’s warmer to the touch. Some might think it’s plastic, even if it seems to us much nicer than just plastic for our fingers. Magnesium lovers or not, the Acer Swift 7 is one of the best laptops in the world for weekends or quick business trips when you’re trying to put everything in an airplane bag. The laptop weighs only 890g and is so thin that it takes up less space in a backpack than the padding specific to some computers. The Swift 7 is also much shallower than most 14-inch ultraportable laptops. Dell has attracted a lot of attention for its very thin screens in the XPS 13, but there is a lot of empty space below the screen. Not so much in this Acer, which means that the keyboard plate can also lose weight, for a reduced footprint. You probably have the idea. The Swift 7 is very thin and light. This is not the most robust laptop, however. Pick it up by one end and you can feel the shell bend ingena. You can also activate the mouse clicker by pressing the underside of the Acer Swift 7. That doesn’t make us think it’s about to collapse as soon as you get it out of the box. But that’s not what you want at 1799. Acer also used a particularly strange measure to make the design of the Swift 7 work: there is no room for the camera at the front, so it fits under a small shutter that sits just above the keyboard. You press it and the camera opens and closes like a retractable pen. It’s a horrible angle to hold a video call – as we said about the design of the Huawei MateBook – and you have to move your head into a slightly unusual position to fit in the frame. It’s a bit difficult, probably with the thought that most people won’t use the webcam much, if at all. screen LCD 14-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels IPS 300-nits brightness Anti-reflective layer The Acer Swift 7 features a 14-inch Full HD display. This seems more unusual than this specification because the border at the bottom of the screen is so small. This is an impressive technical advance, even if the screen coverage of the phones is already much longer. However, this is not a practical improvement without mixing. Less blank volume below the screen lowers the display. Use the Acer Swift 7 on your lap and you need to tilt your head a little more than usual. Your shoulders won’t thank you. The Acer Swift 7’s screen isn’t as sharp as a MacBook’s. Full HD (AKA 1080p) is enough for a 14-inch laptop, but the text seems a little pixelated. Just like the quality of the construction, this may not be what you’d expect when opening a laptop for $1,800. Again, if you’re looking for something you can rely on for a period of time between charges, increasing the resolution wouldn’t justify the impact on battery life. In other ways, the Swift 7 screen is awesome. The construction of the screen is extremely well adapted to the light conditions. We took the laptop to a park on a very sunny day and found that the documents and websites were always perfectly visible with minimal brightness, which is quite amazing. The whites are green until you find the backlight, but it’s one of the best fashionable laptops you can buy for outdoor use, worldwide. The color saturation is excellent too.
