History of AC Milan
From his first title under the first president, Alfred Edwards, to the present, AC Milan is a football club that has an extraordinary history both domestically and on the European scene.
After winning the first three titles in 1906 and 1907, Milan had to wait until the 1950-1951 season to win their fourth title.
Starting in the early 1950s, the Swedish striker Gunner Nordahl joined Milan and was recorded as the club's top scorer in the 1949/50, 1952/53, 1953/54 and 1954/55 seasons. He also captained the Rossoneri to win another title in his final season at Milan.
While Real Madrid lead the European Cup winning record nine times, Milan are the second most successful team with a record of seven wins.
In the period of the 60s to 70s, Milan had legendary player Gianni Rivera who helped the club's extraordinary achievements.
During AC Milan's defense, Rivera contributed three Serie A titles, two European Cups and several other trophies before retiring in 1979.
The late 1980s and much of the 1990s was one of Milan's best periods when Berlusconi sat in the club's presidency.
Coach Arrigo Sacchi, a former shoe seller, won the title in 1988 and the European Cup in 1989 and 1990.
This success is sustained by Milan's formidable squad. Behind a row of four formidable defenders namely Maldini, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta and Mauro Tassotti, while Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten are tasked with breaking down the opposing goal.
The next coach, Fabio Capello, enjoyed even more success by bringing AC Milan to win four Serie A titles in five years.
