A planet spiralling into dying star may tell us about how Earth will be destroyed

Our sun may seem generous because it supports all life on earth. But it also has a lifespan. After about 5 billion years, the sun will run out of fuel and the sun will begin to expand. And planets such as Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars will surely perish.But there are many theories about the dire fate of our solar system, and how (or?) Earth will meet its end is still being debated in the scientific community. New observations of planets swirling around dying stars could help us understand and predict what the fate of our planet would be if the only star supporting it began to die. In a new study released Monday (December 19), a team of mostly US-based researchers found that the doomed exoplanet Kepler-1658b could be the world's most dead planet as the star ages. I hope that it will help clarify whatHer 2,600 light-years from Earth, Kepler-1658b, is known as the \"hot Jupiter\" planet. The planet is about the size of Jupiter. However, it orbits the dying star at an orbit one-eighth the distance between Mercury and the Sun. This makes it much hotter than Jupiter in our solar system.A study published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters found that Kepler-1658b's orbit around its primary star is less than three days shorter than hers, shortening it by about 131 milliseconds per year. Shreyas Vissapragada, a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and lead author of the study, said:\"This is the first time we have seen direct evidence of a planet spiraling toward an evolved star,\" he told AFP. So, is the Earth destined for a similar fate? In a statement, the Center for Astrophysics said, \"Star death is the fate believed to await many worlds, becoming Earth's ultimate adios billions of years from now as the Sun ages. there is a possibility.\"In about 5 billion years, the Sun will evolve into a red giant,\" Visapragada said. The tidal process observed by Kepler-1658b \"disrupts the Earth's orbit toward the Sun,\" but that effect could be offset by the Sun's mass loss, he said.\"Earth's ultimate fate is somewhat uncertain,\" he added. Kepler-1658b was the first exoplanet observed by the Kepler Space Telescope, which launched in 2009. But it took nearly a decade of work to confirm the planet's existence in 2019, according to the Center for Astrophysics.For 13 years, astronomers have observed slow but steady changes in the orbits of planets as they cross the surface of their host stars.
