6 Morning Habits that can Ruin Your Day

A good morning routine is a foundational part of self-care, affecting everything from your energy levels and productivity to the state of your skin.

But it is easy to fall into less-than-ideal habits without even realizing it ― particularly during a global pandemic when we collectively cope with much bigger issues, and routines have long gone out the window.

1. Hitting snooze button:

The first mistake in the morning is hitting the snooze button of the alarm.
  Hitting the snooze button has a two-fold impact both mentally and physically. When you hit that snooze button, you clearly signal to your mind that it is ok to procrastinate. Day after day, this becomes a bad habit. Physically 10 minutes of extra sleep never makes you feel fresher.  In fact, as it disturbs the sleep cycle overall. 
   So it is much smarter to set your alarm for the exact time you need to get up. 

 

2. Grabbing phone as soon as after getting up:

Almost 80% of smartphone users check their phones within 15 minutes of waking up every morning. The power of the subconscious mind makes your day. Today's research has proven beyond doubt that our subconscious mind is highly active during the first 20 minutes of waking up.  Scientists call it "ALPHA STATE OF MIND. " If affect on your day.
    So, instead of peeping into social media and stressing yourself, feed your mind with positive thoughts. This includes making a habit of reading books or newspapers, practicing yoga, doing morning walks, and many more. 

 

3. Skipping making your bed:

After getting off the bed,  many people skip making their bed. This insignificant-looking task can do wonders for your mindset.  
Admiral William McRaven said that 
" If you wanna change your world,
start by making your bed."
     Well, there is a psychological reason behind why this is a mandatory practice for military troops. When you make your bed, it cultivates a sense of discipline. 

 

4. Some of us avoid light entering the room:

The longer you keep yourself away from the morning light, the longer you will feel tired.  In fact, it's the best time to take a sunbathe. Research has exposed that if you expose yourself to morning sunlight, you will experience a greater sense of alertness throughout the day. It will kill many viruses around us and additionally reduces indoor pollution. 

 

5. Skipping breakfast/ Not having proper breakfast:

Rushing to work without breakfast is like racing without fuel. It is essential to understand that our body has been starving for hours and needs a good nutritious meal. Breakfast with food that is devoid of nutrition is still a big mistake. So decide beforehand and fuel your body well for energy .

 

6. Not planning the day:

The day goes well that goes as per plan. Not planning the day gets consumed up without any sense of direction. Jotting down the goals you wish to accomplish on a particular day does the job well. Just note them down and keep track of them.
