It is safe to say that over the past few years, there has never been a buzzword with a strong marketing impact like the word 5G. The word means so much that the industry has been advertising everywhere. New smartphones support 5G. The new network company post talks about 5G services. Chip vendors are talking about 5G modems and SoCs. Device makers are selling 5G as the "next big thing" that will change the lives of users. Depending on who you talk to, you will hear different things about 5G. Has the slightly improved 4G mobile broadband, or technology that will connect industries and services, empower a larger number of IoT devices, and serve as a backbone to support innovation in the future? What is 5G, really? Is it worth the effort?

5G is a broad term. Generally, it has three categories:

5G for smartphone users is related to the first field. The business sector will, no doubt, benefit from it as well, through applications in industries such as non-motorized vehicles, smart cities, medical applications, intelligent machinery, intelligent production, and so on. With regard to the third sector, IoT, the telecommunications and mobile industries have for years announced that 5G will connect Internet of Things (IoT) devices at greater prices. Everything around us will be connected. Will it happen? It is possible. For smartphone users, the last two categories are interesting for the subjects, but the first field — mobile and voice data — is really important for end users.
For smartphone users, 5G refers to faster data — much faster, much faster in some cases. New networks also promise surprisingly low latency, coupled with wired broadband. This will be a huge investment in operating conditions such as multiplayer cloud games that rely on very low delays. While 4G networks have never been able to get latency down on broadband standards, 5G promises just that.5
G will also have very high bandwidth and network data capacity. That said, it will not be frustrating, as 4G was the case when a huge number of users started using the network. For network companies that have conquered 4G networks, 5G will represent improved service quality, less downtime, and better customer experience.
It’s all about speed, though. 5G specification directs for20Gbps high connection speed, ten times the maximum 4G LTE modem chip (as high as 2Gbps). After all, 20Gbps is the only theoretical target to date. The best modem chips released by chip vendors Qualcomm and Samsung can go up as high as 7.5Gbps (if you use millimeter wave 5G) and 5Gbps (if you use sub-6GHz 5G). In the real world, some mm Wave 5G networks have up to 1.5Gbps down link, while less than 6GHz 5G networks have reached up to 600-700Mbps.
